Here is my problem. My wife and I have two Samsung A310s. Both have had numerous problems, dropped calls, lock-ups, text messages that we never get and now both our batteries are not holding a charge as long as they used to. We have been under contract all most 2 years( Expires in October) with a family plan. We signed up through RadioSH#*. RadioSh#* has been no help at all and Verizon has checked our firmware version put problems listed above still happen. What is our options at this point. We desperately need new phones but can not afford to pay the regular 200$ plus price tag. We are more than willing to sign up for a new 2 year contract. What phones do you recommend. Do not need camera, but would like clam-shell design. One thing I do kn...

if you are able to bare with it for a little bit long everything should be fine, you are eligible for promo pricing on new equipment 2 months before the end of your service agreement, if not able to wait that long there are still a couple options, the early upgrade program will get you promo pricing on new equipment right now but you have to at least be on a 59/99 calling plan or higher(worry free guarentee still applies to change rate plan at anytime, if you're not using the 59.99 go back down) you can also take advantage of or replacement phone progrqam which is an entry level phone for 79.99 or 99.99 or 50.00 off retail price of any phone, and last but not least our FRU phones(refurbished from the manufacturer) is 50.00...all options othe...

The problems your experiencing is normal w/ all cell phones. If you signed a two year contract and it expires in Oct then one you have the new every two feature(im assuming your on a family share plan). if your contract exprires in oct then your eligibility date would be in august. I work on the west coast and I know that vzw has a promotion going on which is buy one get one free samsung(promotion ends aug 22). if you have the new every 2 feature then it would be two free phones.

but also keep in mind that only the primary line would be eligible for the NE2...Have to 34
.99 or higher on calling plan, secondary line only pays 20.00, but with the BOGO's out there you could still get 2 phones for free...

On the east coast. NE2 cannot be used on bogo's. You would just get 100 off the primary and still pay the promotional price for the second phone.

Thanks for all your replies and help. Our contract expires in October so I am going to wait until August to get new phones and change plans. As far as phones go I have another question. How important is a trie-mode phone vs all digital. We travel to north-west PA (Oil City) quite often and I am concerned about analog and digital phones. With my A310 I have never seen it in analog mode in PA so it may not be important. Again I am looking for a phone with good audio quality, signal strength and battery life. Plus good reliability.

Don't forget, the NEWFOR2 option can ONLY be done via direct channels (e.g. Verizon Wireless Store, VzW Telesales) but not through Customer Service or an indirect dealer like Rad Shk.

In the Northeast corridor it might not be all that important to have a trimode, unless you were going waaaaaay out into the boonies, Deer Hunter-style. VZW was formed from NYNEX & Bell Atlantic Mobile, so they have all the old towers, plus a ton on new ones, I'm sure.

On phones, I can suggest a couple of things. From low-end to high-end, I suggest:

1. Nokia 3589i. Trimode, great signal strength. Durable - I sell these to a couple of oilfield service companies, and they're terrible on handsets, but these last a while. Easy to use, and a familiar user-interface. Sold for $9.99 or free depending on where you go.

2. Samsung A650. Trimode, good signal strength. If you do a lot of text-messaging, the predictive text input is very intuitiv...

Thanks for the quick replies. schnozejt I realize that there will be some problems with cell phones from time to time. But our problems happen way to often and are not satisfactory in my mind. Thanks for your input VZWMan and schnozejt.

I liked the A310 at first, then I started to see them coming in with weird problems...

I agree with you 100% on the Radio Crack issue. I worked there for a couple of years in college, before I moved on to VZW, and let me tell you, they might have good prices on handsets (very occasionally), but the accessories are tremendously overpriced & they hound you to buy them so the salespeople get more spiffs. Personally, I was the VZW expert in my store, and I made it a point to know everything I could find out about Verizon, the policies, quirks in the phones, etc. Most sales associates could care less. They just want to get a quick sale & then see you walk out the door never to return except to buy another phone. I wince now whenever I have cu...

I also had a bad RS experience...I had purchased a Samsung A-310 from them that was definitely faulty, and brought it back within the 15-day timeframe...but everytime I brought it in, the guy behind the counter said he would try to fix it, did the *228 thing and something else, but it still froze and dropped calls. I also had bad battery issues with the batteries loosing charge fast. When I asked them to exchange it, they wouldn't. Then I asked them to give me my money back and re-activate my LG-510 I had at the time and the clerk said he'd charge me some ridiculous "re-stock fee"!! I finally called Verizon CS and she recommended I go to a Verizon Store, not a "Radio Shack". I did and they lady behind the counter re-affirmed how I feel abo...

I'd also watch your phone around the areas you use it most, if you see the roaming or analog indicator popping up then during these times then you will most definitely find a decrees in quality of service as well as with battery life. When a phone is doing that it starts to try to constantly look for our signal as well as constantly maintain contact with the currently serving tower, where when it is with in our net work it just checks in every so often to make sure its in our area still.

Just some slightly above basic trouble shooting I know of.

If your contract expires in October than you should be elgible for equipment upgrades in August- or now if you are on a plan $75 or higher. I would recommend getting any of the new LG phones. I'm actually surprised you had problems with the A310- those are actually very reliable phones. The newer Samsung models are very nice too (A650,A670) I would avoid Motorola phones until they release a decent model that does not have ongoing issues.

Where did you get $75.00 or higher ...early upgrade program is if you have had your phone for at least 1 year and are currently on a 59.99 calling plan or high or move to a 59.99 calling plan or higher...at least it's that way in the Midwest...

My bad... if you are on a plan $59.99 or higher you can upgrade 2 months early and if you are on a plan $75 or higher you can upgrade 6 months early. This is the policy for the West Area.
