Switch ESN between V3c and Smartphone on same plan?

I presently have Vcast and BroadBand Access on my V3c and would like to buy a Smartphone like the Q, or a PDA.

My question is how can I buy a Q at retail price and still have the ability to turn the RAZR back on when all I want to carry is a small phone.

CS gives various answers, ranging from "You need to have a whole new plan for each phone" to "Just do the ESN switch online and don't forget to activate/ deactivate the extra services".

What is the correct answer?

VZW.com My Account will not let you do an esn change to a PDA or Smartphone. Game Over.

Well, you could always call customer service and let them do it. But they are going to charge you a $20 processing fee. Which is crap. I've never charged it. I never will. Pray you get a rep that believes in customer service when you call into switch it out.

So you can switch online from a V710 to RAZR to Smartphone without buying a new plan and without any troubles?

Baasically, you can have an analog, VCast and Smartphone in the same week, on the same account, according to this.

when switching from v-cast phone to non vcast phone......you cant do it online. when switching from pda-smartphone to non v-cast or v-cast phone it cant be done. as long as you stay in the same feature range you can do it online.

its a bit too much to explain in a thread but there are certin feature that have to be added when changing esn's of a v-cast or pda. that online doesn't offer.

No, because the premium network access feature needs to be removed. Online doesn't know to automatically remove the features needed or added, so it fails. If you go from a VCast phone to Vcast phone it will work. If you go from a Non-Vcast phone to a Non-Vcast phone it will work. If you go from a Non-Vcast to a Vcast phone it will fail (vice versa). If you try to switch two phones around on your account (if you have a family share plan) it will fail. I've personally never seen a PDA to PDA work either. Even if they're keeping the same features.

Correct but you should ask them to waive the $20 fee for the ESN change since the Verizon web site has limitations. Advise them of that and they will waive it. Only time they should charge you is when u want to switch from a EDVO to another EDVO phone or non edvo to a non edvo phone and you choose not to use the web site.

i'm sure they would waive it in that situation if you bring it to their attention
