Question about "home airtime" usage

Hi guys, long time reader first time posting here. I have a question. I just now noticed something that is not made clear (to me at least) in the VZW contract terms, was hoping for some input. US Cellular, for example, requires that in order to get "free" nights & weekends and incoming calls, you must be in your local calling area, this is expressly laid out in the contract. However when looking at my VZW terms it refers to "home area" calling and doesn't really elaborate. My question is whether VZW has a similar/same policy as USCC, that with a national calling plan, you must be within your home calling area in order for unlimited nights & weekends to apply? I'd assume they do have the same policy but never thought about it until today...

I've been told by co-ordinators in my call center that there are a few small areas where you are not roaming but "in" wouldn't apply as it's not part of the "in" calling area. I've never seen one on any map or had a customer that was affected by it, but just wanted to make it known.

If your phone reads verizon wireless, or extended network, your night and weekend minutes and "in" minutes apply.

What you need to pay attention to is one thing, maybe 2, depending on what plan you are on.

If the phone reads extended network, and there is a blinking triangle flashing on the screen, usually top part, the "in" minutes will not apply, night and weekends, and peak minutes apply in those areas.

If you are on The america's choice 1 plan, then if your phone says roam, then you will be paying $.69/minute to use the phone, no free minutes period in those areas.

Please take note on the the areas that "in" minutes do not apply, those areas are far in between. I operate in Iowa, minnesota,Wisconsin, south dakato, north dakota,...

Thanks for that, that was helpful. I'm on the America's Choice II national $59.99 plan. I was pretty sure this was the case, just wanted to make sure. I finally dug up what I was looking for on VZW's website somewhere too, I'm all good!

If you go to Louisiana or Mississippi in extended coverage, then your "IN" minutes don't apply in that area, but your N/W minutes will still work on extended network in Louisiana & Mississippi. I rarely go off the network, so I can't completely comment on that. When I originally signed up for Verizon Wireless service in March 2002, the original Americas Choice plan at that time required m2m to be used on their network only, otherwise during peak time, any ...

You are partially correct on that. What is actually true is that in the extended network (and you are absolutely correct about the icon) there is a chance your "in" minutes won't apply. It actually depends on whose tower you are using. In extended network, VZW does not own the towers and therefore can't guarentee the towers capabilities. Some towers for some companies do not have the capabilties to relay the correct information to VZW and therefore VZW does not know that these are other VZW calling and the receiving end does not get in. Actually, the caller in the extended area will get their "in" minutes because VZW can get that information. And you are absolutely correct that it is very few and far in between for towers that are affected b...
