Insurance and stolen phone?

Hi all--
I have a bit of an issue I'm hoping you can help with.
I had a razr that I thought had been stolen a few months ago. I used my insurance and got the phone replaced--I had a new one shipped to me. However, I just found the old phone under the seat of my car! Theoretically, could I give it to my boyfriend (also a verizon customer), or will it come up as stolen? I'm afraid to call Verizon because I'm not sure what they're going to say to me. 🙂
Thanks!

Typically when handsets are reported stolen the ESN is placed on a stolen phone log and can never be activated on VZW's network again. Activating it on your boyfriend's line wouldn't be a good idea. For one, it's insurance fraud. Depending on how long ago you received the replacement from insurance, sometimes if you call them and let them know you found your old phone they will allow you to send back the replacement, and receive your $50 back. Then VZW can un-block the old ESN for you and it can be placed back onto your account. That would be your safest bet.

the 50 bucks is NON refundable. Believe me, I found this out the hard way. I found the old phone a few days after reporting it lost. I called them up to tell them I found my old one. Not only did they NOT refund my 50 bucks, but they sent me a return label to send the "lost" one back to them. And if I didn't, they were going to charge me another 150 bucks!

Whoa! Was that Asurion or Lockline? That's crazy.

More than likely both companies will tell you that. It's in the claim literature for both that any recovered equipment is their property once a claim has been filed. I have known Asurion in the past to offer the deductible back in return for the replacement phone, but this is not their normal policy. Like any company, it really depends on who you talk to there.
