iTunes to increase prices

So for all of you who feel it is such a rip off for VZW to charge $1.99 per song for over the air downloads, this is going to be a real downer. It looks like itunes pricing is going to be increasing from the 0.99 per song that everyone has grown accustom too. Well it seems like the VZW pricing of $1.99 for over the air and $0.99 for web based downloads kis not so bad. Here is the link from CNN.com:

Wait, ppl buy songs from iTunes? I always used my free version I Down Loaded, and just rip all my friends CD's then burn my own, or save them to my iPod/Phone. Heh, ya, I still think Verizon's V-Cast is a rip off. Even if you do pay for songs through iTunes, at least it is not an extra $15 a month on top of my purchases. 😛

You only need to pay for the vcast service if you want to be able to download music directly from the phone, if you want to buy music online from VZW you do not have to have the vcast subscription. Basically with vcast though there is no reason to ever have to buy cd's again, except for blank ones so you can burn your own. An yeah since you asked tons of people buy music from i tunes every single day. Quick question what do you do when a new song comes out that you want, do you still actually buy the cd? How lame, why not buy the song from the vcast music site or some other sit like it unes and not bother having the cd. In my opinion that is such a waste.

No, when a new song comes out, I wait for someone else I know to buy the CD and then rip it. And if I have to wait a couple weeks after the song comes out to get it for free, then I wait. Patience is a virtue few have now a days, but my lust for $$$, and for screwing the Big Man, keeps me very able to wait for anything I can get free. Just my opinion. Eh. Ppl waste their money on stuff all the time. Go them.

I buy music from music from Itunes all of the time...its a great website and they have an unbelievable selection of music. I dont really DL free music much anymore, I kinda missed buying an albums and having the entire disc...I love Itunes for singles, I'm a dj and I tunes has been a great resource to get good DL's of songs that I need to have, but might not want to buy the whole cd.

Hey, these artists work hard on their craft and I have no problem paying 10 bucks for a cd at bestbuy.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this article doesn't say that iTunes is raising it's prices, just that they are getting pressure to do so.

I think the big record company/move studios are being too greedy. Why not just offer a subscription based service, for 29.99 a month who wouldnt sign up for the ability to download/transport music and movies to any peripheral they would like. RESIDUAL INCOME BABY.

Uhh... the article didn't say that iTunes was gonna raise prices, only that they're under pressure to do so. That's been true for at least a year now. 😕

Even if they do end up raising prices, given Apple's REAL reason for having iTunes (to give iPod users something to put on their iPods so that they keep on buyin' iPods), they'll raise them as little as possible. And no doubt will keep on undercutting Verizon's (too high) $1.99 price.

Plus, they got more selection than VCast music too. VZW is gonna have to cut prices AND increase selection to have any kind of a chance against iTunes. Just the way it is.

I'll give it that, but even so... a 100 percent markup for a mobility 'convenience fee' is a bit much. 😳
