Are they kidding?

I saw the 9800 online on the verizon website for $150. When I went to the store to purchase it, they said that the phone costs $269!! I told them about the online deal and they said that they would check, acting as if they didn't believe me. They then told me that the phone would now cost $219!!! They told me I had to buy the accessory pack which was an additional $79. I asked if I "had" to buy the accessory pack and they told me that that was the only way to purchase the phone. I have never had to deal with a bunch of con-artists like that before. Shame on you verizon! 👿

Take a look at the pricing on the display, it should say that the accessory pack is optional.

Don't even bother with that store. Go to another one that will be more up front and honest with you. It's the rep that's being dishonest, not the whole company.

Making you? Tell me, izzybeez, who put a gun to your head and 'made you' do anything? From your semi-intelligent post, I surmised you were an American citizen with rights, including the right to choose NOT to purchase an item from a retail establishment.

My bad if I misinterpreted this.

Yeah, your bad. Now if you read my post correctly, ZOLTAR, they said the only way to purchase the 9800 with any kind of deal or discount IN-STORE was to purchase it with the accessory pack. I never said they "made me" do anything. Did I ever mention I bought the phone? No. Get your facts straight and your eyeglass prescription fixed before you start yapping away. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.

You know PlatyPUSS,

Using superlatives like that makes one look like a moron. If you are so closed-minded to think an entire company is made up of 'nothing but theives' this speaks volumes toward your apparent lack of intelligence. At least, in my humble view of the world it does.

Don't be recockulous. The 'world' of Verizon is that of an ethical company that is a business leader. As with any multi-billion dollar company with 50k plus employees and thousands more 'agents' you are bound to encounter a few bad apples.

Tell me, carlsberg, what company do you work for that has only 100% honest and moral people? What's that I hear? Crickets chirping? That's what I thought.

Yes, I agree with some of the other's on here. It is NOT verizon that is trying to |scam| you, its a sales rep who is just trying to pad their check or meet quota on accesories. We "include" or accessories package with each phone as well, but in reality we can take it off the drop the price of the phone by $35. We are trained to give the regular price with the 3 piece kit, and then IF the customer eitehr says they do not want/need it, or we cannot get them to buy, then we offer the $35 "discount". $79 for a kit is ridiculous anyways, but the rep should have at least given you the option to not get it so they could sell you the phone for $150. But then again, my boss is the same way, if a person wants us to match a price online, he says...

as voted by me, dca... 😁

It's interesting how many times this appears on this website in a forum let alone in real life at the stores. That was the most difficult thing in the world when I was in wireless explaining that the commodization of the average wireless phone is much different than say a stereo receiver a store buys from China for $50US and wants to sell for $100US to make a 2.0 profit on the product... with the weird ways of acquiring the product to sell in the wireless store(s)/kiosk(s), direct or indirect creates some very interesting methods of selling...

thank you very much. Its true though. Cell phone business is an entire different world.

Say phone X costs me $250, and I get $200 for new activations (basic $39.99 plan) and I get $100 for Upgrades (basic $39.99 plans). If I sell the phone for $150, on brand new activations, I make a profit of $100, on an upgrade though, I make no profit, thus I either A🙂 Sell the phone for higher, and unfortunately have to explain to customers that Verizon will give a brand new customer a better deal on a phone that a LOYAL customer who pays XXXXXXX a month (which sucks so bad to do yet I have had to explain a million times) or B;) Tell them I can still sell it for $150 if they buy accessories (since I get accesories for only $X.XX and I sell the...

On average it costs $27 to retain a customer. Those $9.99 for life customers are the low end of the cost. Verizon makes money on them, a small amount. Possibly $1/month at the most.
