Curious 😁

I have a couple questions for those interested in answering.

1.Why did you choose verizon and would you do it again?

2. If you did go with another carrier which one and why?

I was sold verizon service close to seven years ago when I knew nothing about cellular. I continue to stay because of good service. I'm an avid hiker and tell myself I like having access to analog, but every time I have an analog signal while hiking it never can call out

I would probably choose verizon again, but if it wasn't an option I would go with T-mobile. I live in Washington State which is T-mobile headquarters and they have this area very well covered. I have several friends with T-mobile and I must admit it sounds better then verizon

Good idea on the poll.

1. I chose verizon 2 years ago cause of work going across the country and in specific areas that at the time ATT (now cingular) did not cover. I have enjoyed their service over the years, but after realizing the restrictions that Verizon puts on their phones and incidentally, their customers, to pay for other services that would otherwise be free (i.e. mp3 player not playing mp3s, unable to load your own ringtones, unable to install your own programs, unable to download non verizon programs, and the overall manipulation of the phones we own) I would not choose them again.

2. T-Mobile, less restrictions on what you can do with the phone and you can take the phone to other countries and still use it. Verizon req...

I agree, verizon is getting crazy wit their restrictive ways. They still are the best in the business for overall coverage and customer service. I just don't travel and it would be sweet to have a Siemens CX75 hooked up with T-mobile.

i was on vzw but left due to bad customer service in our area stores. i went to at&t/ now with cingular. since then the customer service in our vzw stores have gotten better. i thought about going back but vzw and their controlling ways are retarded. i was going to carry a vzw phone because i wanted a cdma carrier and a gsm. now it looks like my cdma carrier will be sprint.

Verizon wasn't my original choice nearly 4 years ago. In January 2002, I was looking around for wireless service and most places in my area sold Sprint, AT&T, Cingular, Voicestream (now T-Mobile), & Primeco (now US Cellular for the Chicago market). I started by looking at an expo in Cicero IL and looked at AT&T & Sprint. After basing on where I traveled and the available plans, I originally decided on Sprint. When I finally went to sign up for Sprint at Radio Shack, the local plan I wanted for $30, which was 200 anytime minutes was discontinued, and was replaced with a price tag of $35. Next to the Sprint phones was Verizon Wireless and their national plan was $35 for 300 anytime minutes & 3000 night & weekend minutes. I made up my min...

1. I actually had cell service with a different company that was bought out 7 years ago by VzW.

2. I would go VzW and have several times. The only one I would leave them for is TMo. The reason for that is b/c I almost did one time for a phone. I was ready to join TMo with a Siemens SK65 (my dream phone). Other than that, I would pretty much stick to VzW.

I been a Verizon Customer for 7 years, but I am now looking at AMP'd. Why? Unlimited data features. I am still young only 23, so alot of my friends are younger 16-25 range. Thus alot of them either have Prepaid phones or are not verizon due to credit checks. Thus the $5 unlimited verizon-verizon text does not help me as much as it should. Last month I had 2800 texts, and only 800 of them to Verizon costing me an extra $200. Amp's has unlimited texts for $10 a month, and unlimited pix and texts for $14.99. Not bad at all.

Yeah, I'm wit' Verizon too, but am kinda takin' a look at Amp'd, mainly due to Verizon's ultra-retarded mp3-crippling and bluetooth crippling ways. Amp'd uses Verizon's network, so I think I'd be happy with the coverage and reliability, plus likely there'd be fewer feature restrictions.

But I'm under contract with Verizon, so it'll be awhile before any switchin' occurs. I still like Verizon, just wish they'd stop being such feature Nazis.

the first cell phone i had was an altel phone..service was okay..so was the phone but nothing impressive...

the second service i had was pageplus prepaid..it was a joke...service wan't any good...

the third was tmobile..i went through a few phones..the service was good in some areas and the phones were excellent..i ended up with a sidekick..it was/is a great phone..i truly enjoyed the unlimited txt (to anyone) unlimited internet and as well as sending pictures...

lastly, since i work for verizon, they gave me a free phone... the phones are okay, great service but what you couldn't do with the phones was utterly absurb as opposed to what i could do with my tmobile phone..i could download java games from free sites or ringtones...but ...

Gunny,

I don’t often post to this board but have followed it pretty closely the last couple months. Your post surprises me as I thought you were a true Verizon loyalist.

As for me, I’ve been out of contract for a couple months but will probably exercise my NE2 and commit for another two years. This is because I perceive Verizon to have the best coverage where I live (Western PA) and the places I travel to.

HOWEVER, I would switch to Cingular in a heartbeat except that their coverage is not quite as good and it will probably take them another year or two to catch up. Sprint and T-Mobile are lousy in my area so I don’t think I’d sign with them in the foreseeable future.

The things that bother me most about Verizon are:

1) Their...

Great post you make many good points. I guess I'm a little hacked off with this standard UI on my razr. Its boring. I like most peeps don't appreciate being restricted up the a 👿 👿 and told what I can do with my equipment. It's been fun reading others input.

Your experience is tempting me to at least give Cingular try. Have to disagree somewhat about Sprint however. It seems whenever you get off the beaten path (example Hickory, PA a rural town in Washington County & I could name other areas) Sprint disappears.

Are you going to keep both Verizon and Cingular?

When you get into washington county, many services have problems, including Verizon, in my experience. Cingular is equal to Verizon in that area, though. All of my Sprint experience has been east and north of the city as I just moved to Bridgeville within the last 5 months. So I can't speak to how Sprint works in Washington County, but if it is anything like ce...

I have both Verizon and Cingular as I have states several times in the forums.

So far the Cingular phone only works better in Kentucky.

When i go everywhere else I usually make calls on my Verizon phone because the reception quality (at least to me) is a lot better.

I will stick with Verizon. (Only reason I have Cingular is I have some family members in KY so the price of a simple plan is cheaper than the minutes i would use on my Verizon phone talking to them.)

Reasons I'd stay with Verzion

1. Bluetooth-- I'm never gonna use bluetooth for anything anyway. I still laugh at people who walk around with headsets talking to themselves all day 🙂

2. User Interface-- It's here to stay. Get over it.

3. Coverage-- From my experi...

1. I chose Verizon because Cingular and T-Mobile would just lay silently on my desk while management and customers would be calling, then further would not notify me of voicemails they had left.

One of these days it just went to far, I stormed into a VZW store.

Bar none, Verzion worked in all the alcoves of NYC which I stuck myself into during the day, and in the evenings.

Repeated attempts to coax and pave the way (in terms of landlord issues) for the other 2 carriers instal GSM REFLECTORS/REPEATERS/MINI-TOWERS have resulted in 0 action items on behalf of T-Systems/Deutche Telecom and CINGULAR/AT&T Wireless :-(.

2. Don't know.

1. I chose GTE wireless because it was the only cell company that would get a signal at my apartment in Sebastopol, CA. back when I lived in CA. I continue to chose Verizon wireless because of their supreme network and the best customer service of any cell phone company that I know of.

2. I would go with Cingular because I really want a freaking smart phone that's not a PDA.

1. I went with Verizon Wireless because of their employee pricing plan. Previously I was with Sprint for five years and loved the phones, and the coverage I had in my area. I worked deep in the bowels of a communications company with lots of RF signal everywhere, and never once dropped a call in that building. Their CS was awful though, and I dreaded ever having to call them for anything. I kept track of my minutes and had a sense of personal responsibility, so the need to call in was rare.

2. If I were to leave Verizon, I would likely go back to Sprint. Prior to working in the industry, I might have tried Cingy, but they're a joke. The big reason I'll likely stay with VZW is that I like knowing the inner workings of the company I...

I originally chose Verizon 2 1/2 years ago when my ATT TDMA contract expired and I refused to go to ATT GSM because of the all the problems I had heard about a lack of reception.

Choosing Verizon has been a pretty good experience overall despite the fools that work in the stores. Were it not for the excellent CS I receive when I call 611, I probably would have left Verizon at the end of my contract.

If I were to leave Verizon for another carrier I would probably choose T-Mobile because I know their coverage is comparable to verizon in the area of Brooklyn I live in. I know their network is very small compared to Verizon but they have world capapble phones and the great idea of the SIM Card as opposed to getting the ESN Chnager to work ...

I orginially chose verizon about 2.5 years ago because I wanted a camera phone (LG 6000) and I wasnt happy with my cingular service.

Would I chose them again? Yeah probably, although I am gonna have to echo the sentiments of the other peeps in this poll...I'M SICK OF VZN CRIPPING FEATURES! I also dont understand the standard UI, is it really that hard to learn a new UI? I dont think so, and if consumers are happy with a certain UI, then why dont they stick with that brand of phone? I dunno, just my two cents.

But I do love VZN's coverage and customer service, however if sprintnextel does some big things next year I would consider a switch (I get a 22% discount through my company). Until then, me and my e815 will be happy together...

I'm a vzw customer have been for about 3 years now. I originally decided to go with verizon when i began working for an indirect multii carrier dealer. weighed the pro's and con's, and customer complaints form each carrier at the time in AZ no Cingy only ATTW. Verizon was the best option. Before that i had ALltell which was a dissaster, horrible phone (granted i was uninformed and got a free phone) but the CS and Reception sucked totatly. Before that MCI what a mess actually my dad's account but somehow i got drug down in. Finally, My verizon phone has never had a problem. Customer service is quick to answer and quick to fix what few bililng compliants i have had only 1 that i can blame on VZW honest mistake and fixed with in 5 minute...

Have had VZE since they were Rochester Tel Mobile.(1993) Always had good coverage.

I would choose them again in a heart-beat.

If I were to go with someone else it'd be in this order.

Cingular Blue
T-Mob

I had verizon for about 4 years because the service was good. I had a lot of problems with the phones I had though. I had mot t720 that was terrible, I had a 8600 that was terrible and then most recently I had a mot 265 that really was terrible. In between there I had a LG 4400 and a LG 6100 that worked ok.

I recently switched to Sprint Pcs in September because of a better discount with my job. So far the sprint works better in my area than the verizon ever did. I works in my house, my mom's basement and any of the malls that I shop at. I have not had a problem with any dropped calls or customer service.

If I ever did switch I would probably go to Cingular because of the sim cards, I just like th idea of keeping my phone book.
