Question....I've heard that the reason the 8100 isn't on the website right now is because the ones they have are loaded with V06 for MOD and can't be sold until it releases. I won't be able to use MOD when it comes out because I don't have VCAST in my area yet (supposedly soon, but ??????) would I still benefit from getting my current 8100 (with V04 on it) updated to V06 when it's available and if I do, what will it do to my phone?

Also....if this is not the reason why the 8100 in no longer on the website, could you please explain why it's no longer there? What's going on with it? I have heard sooooo many rumors. I'd love to know the real story. I've heard V06 was recalled, heard there never was a V06, heard a software update was in t...

Apparantly no one knows, Mary. It was on the website when I looked this morning. Maybe it is just your market.

apparently the FRU's or warranty phones that were sent out with a software glitch that allowed people to download music for free off the vcast service. They had to fix that glitch so all the v.06 phones had to be reflashed. So if you have a version 6 phone you can try d/l music for free of the vcast service

It also doesn't help when the warehouses run out of the phones. 8100s, 276s, and other popular (yeah, I wrote popular...for Verizon) phones have gone out of stock for a wee bit.

I think the issue here is that VZW employees are sworn to secrecy on this one.

In general... The new software for VCast Music will just change the way the music player works and how you interact with it. Of course some people will like the changes, some won't. It will certainly become the hottest flame war of the new year.

Hey hopefully this can shed a little light on this, as far as the phone not being on the website, your right, the ones manufactured at this time do have the new upgrades for V-cast music, which is why they are not on the website. As far as that affecting you because you are not in an EVDO market, in a way yes, because you will still be able to acess features of it from your computer. As far as making the phone work or recieve and place calls any better, there should be no difference. The wait wont be too much longer, I have the phone, and its great so I would say hold out just a little longer, and you will be happy you did.
