the Razr for free. "Well I've been a customer for 3 years now...surely Verizon should give me that phone." Me, "For three years did your calls go through when you hit the send key?" Customer, "yeah". Me, "When someone called you, were you able to recieve that call?" Customer, "Yeah." Me, "Were you charged a long distance charge on your bill if you had to call California?" Customer, "No, I get long distance with my plan." Me, "Sounds like Verizon has already given you what you paid for. The service. So, now you and the phone company are even. Let's look at this phone, but understand Verizon Wireless has already given you product for your money. This phone..."

Needless to say he didn't buy. He still felt that he should get his c...

but I paid for my old phone and now i cant use it. how about I TRADE in my phone, will you let me have it for free. The screens not as bright as when I first got it. That's a manufacturers defect. I'm Entitled to a free phone. You guys make your money off the service, and if I cant use it thant I shouldn't have to pay. Give me a phone and we'll give you your life back. I'm not leaving this store until I have a (insert phone here) for free.

Customers are always looking for a good deal. This is the basis of our economy. Suck it up and stop whining..educate your customers and shut your mouth.

make me. LOL

No correction. Our economy is now a "I want everything for free...I shouldn't have to pay for anything...I want the same High level of service that my local salesman gives me at the cut rate price the internet offers...I cannot understand why the American economy sucks...etc"

dont complain to us for what cell companies started. It was the cell companies that started the giving a free phone with contract, not the customer, and what now, you all are surprised that the customer still wants something for free...LOL

I would be fine with paying the true retail price and have no contracts, offer those, with the promo minutes, the only difference is, the customer has to provide their own phone, the equipment. Why is a cellular company so locked into contracts, are they that insecure that they want to lock people in, sell your service for what is should be, good service. I have said before, retail stores would love to have the ability to lock people into shopping at their store only. Competition, it is a good thi...

okay, i'm getting a bit sick of the Cable/TV analogy. Unlike a TV, most (cdma)phones can/shouldnot be used accross carriers. Better example: your digital cable box (Set-top box whatever). Okay, your COMCAST/Time Warner cable box are basicly LEASED to you, unlike a phone you BUY, think about your IBM/PC clone for another good example. Now when the new 5 tuner, HD-DVR with built in 5mbps modem and 200gb hard drive comes out, are you given it for free? Hell no! you, the existing cable subscriber have to pay to upgrade your lease. The new customer has to pay as well or be under contract. Now, before someone says "see they give them for fee for new customers." Let us not forget THEY GET THEM BACK AT THE TIME OF DISCONNECT. Now then, switching ge...

My analogy was that you pay xxx dollars a month to the cable company for you tv service. Same thing with cellular. In either case you shouldn't expect freebies because you pay your bill. So the analogy was appropriate and thought out...thank you very much.

yeah, but it's the whole cable/satellite/c-band tv thing, I hate when i see it posted. I guess i'm no better than everyone who reads a well thought-out and planned post the first thing that gets attacked is either spelling or grammer.

And I thought that analogy fit. Just because I use one that has been used many times before doesn't make it wrong. Ok, you want another one...

My home heating costs tripled over the past three years. I have had my service with the gas company for many years. The furnace system I have isn't the newest, nor the most efficent. Should I expect a good size discount on a new furnace from the gas company? BTW, the local heating company sells furnaces...So is it fair that they profit off me for the fuel AND the furnace? Heck no, I am going to call them right now and demand the newer furnace for free...

This might fit better if the gas company came up with new & improved gas- maybe it's really "energy saving" Fantastic!! - and you had a contract with them - minimum 1 yr - and they told you the only way to get the new gas is to agree to another contract and get the new heater for 500.00 - or don't sign a new contract and buy one for 2500.00......... or if you can find it cheaper from another source - go for it! But if it's provided by another source there's no guarantee that it'll work with our gas.

Ok - now it fits better 😁

is there really a need for a contract on public utilities? what are you going to do, switch from gas to a wood stove? Cancel your payments to your electric company and use hampster genertated electricity (works for microsoft)

and i know there's no p in hamster. just a funny typo i see every once in a while

You have alternatives. You can purchase a phone direct from the manufactorer. Most will sell them on their websites. And...yes, I could change from gas to electic heat. But people have once again missed the point: You pay a monthly service for airtime, not for a phone. You sign a contract and get phones cheaper. Does your phone still make and recieve calls? Yes? Then it doesn't need replaced. Has Verizon Wireless came out with a new service that you want but you must purchase a phone on that service? You are within the period that they ALREADY gave you a discount? Well then look at it this way. Think that you bought your first phone at full retail and now you are getting a discount but your discount was already given a year ago. ...

What I have been trying to say is that you don't get anything from a gas company/electric company/cable TV/wal-mart for all that money you spend repeatedly there/etc...you don't get anything extra then WHAT YOU PAID FOR. That would be like me telling my boss, "Hey, I have sold you 200 phones a

You're right = hardly any competition around here for gas companies - oil heat would be a better example I guess because there are many many companies selling home heating oil. Definitely not a "hampster" 🤣

Though I don't disagree with you "crazyeaglefan", here is the problem with the tv analogy.

In most areas you have two "choices", cable or satellite. With cellular, and especially after WNP came into play, many people, especially those who don't participate in these forums see a carrier (i.e. Cingular) offering a "RAZR" for $99 and they feel that they deserve one from VZW for free for their loyal patronage. Of course this is nonsense, but, we live in a society of entitlement and people expect everything for free....

Truth be told, and deep down we all know this, as more carrier fall, a.k.a. consolidate, phone prices and rate plans will become even more pricey; supply and demand will rule.

I feel for you and the crap that you must he...

I wouldn't think any time soon on the subsidized pricing. Customers have a tough time paying 50 bucks for a camera phone now, could you imagine them paying 250 bucks? And you say that plans and such have become more pricey? Heck, I still remember the 200.00 bucks for an LG VX4400 days. I remember when you had two choices...a bag phone, or an install. And you got 25 minutes for 15 bucks. Yeah, pretty cheap...except that the average phone bill was more like 100 bucks because of overage. I knew truck drivers that had 1500 cell phone bills...every month. Now they are like 150.00 bucks average. How is that more pricey? Things have went cheaper...but people still want cheaper yet.

I must not have made myself clear. What I was trying to convey is that with time, in the future...plans will be more pricey. Less choice of carriers equals more expense to the consumer. If you reverse your original example of cable tv, I think that it will make more sense cause we all know how pricey those bills are!

As for rate memories...I do remember (the 80's) when my monthly bill was $800-1000 and I truly miss those days my friend!
