VZW wants me back! I don't think so...

BeachSlapped

I left VZW back in August. I went to a GSM carrier. Shortly after leaving, with my last bill Vz sent me a "sorry you're leaving" letter. In this letter they talked about how big and good their network is and blah blah... a little further down in this letter it implied that after trying other carriers they were pretty sure I'd come back.
Well, I haven't. I'm very happy with Cingular. I'm happier than the 1st time I tried Cingular (when they first rolled out GSM) Anyway, it's been almost 4 months since I left, so I got another letter. This one is a "checking on you" letter. Why is it that they think that no other carrier is better than them? I find this very arrogant and annoying. If I get another letter I'm going to find the time to call th...

Well of course you'd say that bro. You WORK for Cingular, right?

I work for Cingular and used to have Vzw (since 2001) I used to like Vzw more than Cingy. After the merger I switched and I noticed my calls are clearer and the service in my area is the same as that of vzw. Also, I have a T_mobile line (4 international text msgs only) So, there.

I think your right 'bout customers hatin' change, by the by. But if your wit' Verizon, you don' have to worry too much 'bout that, 'cus they're probably not gonna merge wit' anyone anytime soon. Maybe Alltel down the line, but I ain' sure the govt would let it happen.

Because, nobody is better. I'm glad that you are happy with your service. Not everybody enjoys the luxury of not dropping calls. Dare I bring up Stig Sigman's comments? When you have the CEO of any corporation admitting their product is not as good as a competitor publicly it does not bode well for your product. If you'd like to look at numbers then you'll find that VZW performs better. If you'd like to look at technology, you'll find that VZW performs better. There's a reason why only a hair over 1% churn. Only in your dreams, bro.

From what I've read, GSM diehards have been sayin' this for years now, an' it never happens. 'sides, CDMA is growing very fast, like 30% a year, an' is #1 in the US. GSM is bigger worldwide, but as an American.. who cares?

CDMA ain't goin' away, neither is GSM. They'll live side-by-side for several more years, an' as they upgrade will keep stealin' each others best features 'til they'll almost be the same technology.

So then what'll you have to hate on? 🙂

So a consumer is upset that a company showed concern over them leaving...isn't that what a company is supposed to do?

So in other words, if the person had cancelled and VZW didn't respond at all, they would be on here posting about how little VZW cares about if consumers leave. But they show concern when one of the few leave and that person posts because VZW contacted them...

The conclusion to the matter is that the original poster is a troll and just posting this on VZW's message board to start fires...

I think the main point on here was the fact that they send letters to people who have cancelled and then throw an extra arrogant line -which is soooo VZW.
Saying: "It's a shame you're leaving" and then saying: "We know you'll come back cuz we are much better" is just very wrong. And for someone who left Verizon with a bad taste in the mouth just like the guy who started this thread is just a little bit too much.

So VZW is supposed to send a letter saying "It's a shame you're leaving...we hope we have the best network...and if...ummm...maybe...well...we hope you come back"

WAKE UP! Of course they are going to send a letter reflecting confidence (or arrogance as you say). My previous cable company did the same thing. I had a bad taste in my mouth because of their service and I got a few letters coaxing me back. Guess what I did... THREW THEM AWAY ...and kept it moving.

Verizon ain't goin' to GSM. Why should they? They is straight kickin' all the GSM providers asses wit' CDMA. Added 'bout as many customers as Cingular an' T-Mobile COMBINED last quarter, an' wit' half the churn. If it ain' broke, why fix it?

Call peeps wit' the Cingular RAZR so they can hear you? Where you get that from? Verizon's getin' the RAZR in a matter o' days, an' even Cingular's CEO admits that Verizon's got a better network.

1. Verizon will never switch to GSM. Why should they when CDMA is growing faster and hasn't had any problems yet.

2. CDMA is actually newer technology than GSM. GSM originated in the mid 1980's. Now which one is old???

3. AT&T converted to GSM well before the merger, but they didn't do it because GSM is better. They did it because GSM is the logical upgrade path for TDMA technology.

Actually...

CDMA was used by the U.S. military in the 1940s. Not exactly implemented as a cell phone, but they encrypted and transferred data via CDMA technology. It wasn't until the 90s that the idea came about to use it for mobile telecommunications.

True, to a degree...they are clearer until the phone picks up every little background noise making it then impossible to hear the caller clearly. I tried GSM for awhile, both T-Mobile & Cingular. If I was in a quiet room...no problem. But if someone in that room turned on a TV, or someone was speaking in the background, the phone picked up everything. Worse case senerio is outside, or driving in the car. A friend...

I'm not sure why why JPG would say GSM is better. It is actually an older technology than CDMA. Code Division Multiple Access or CDMA for short, was developed in the mid 1990's for wireless use by Qualcomm. Europe had decided to standardize GSM in the early 1990's, well before CDMA became available. Europe needed something that offered higher network capacity immediately since Europe has a higher population density and way more wireless subscribers than the United States. CDMA offers higher call quality, much higher network capacity and many more high speed data network possibilities such as EVDO. GSM will have a hard time keeping up with CDMA over the next decade, since it can not support a high speed data network. Cingular is deploying EDG...

By the way, many countries besides North America use CDMA. But I am sure you knew that. If you drive a Japanese car, chances are the guy who built it has a CDMA phone. Since GSM does not exist in that country either. But yes, I am sure you need a GSM phone for those times when you go to your estate in Monte Carlo. They must spell technology with an "I" over there as well. Don't worry, when you switch to Cingular or T Mobile, I am sure something will happen over there to get your feathers ruffled once again. Thanks for the link. It actually is showing 3G coverage. Japan uses a technology called FOMA (Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access), which is a CDMA derivative also known as WCDMA. The largest service provider is DoCoMo. I do not know of anyone who uses GSM in that country, and do not know of any GSM service in Japan. DoCoMo does offer a few GSM/FOMA handsets for its customers who travel internationally. If you would like more information on Japans main wireless technology, check out this link:

WCDMA is the natural upgrage path for GSM technology. Europe is going to it as well. It is still based on SIM technology. WCDMA is simply a ba ...

WORLD WIDE GSM IS THE KING. AM I MISTAKEN OR IS THE WORLD LARGER THAN NORTH AMERICA? DUH! U THINK?

But who really gives a crap what the world likes? A lotta the world finds body odor acceptable, is ok wit' hairy armpits on women, an' thinks that soccer is better than NFL football. 😁

I'm an American, an' in America, CDMA is more popular than GSM. So the world can go on eatin' snails an' watchin' boring French films an' drivin' cars that make a Miata look big.. I don' care.

Jus' playin devil's advocate. 😈

If I get another letter I'm going to find the time to call them and ask them to remove me from their mailing list.

If you had the time to write your silly rant here, then surely you have the time to call VZW and ask them to remove you from their mailing list.

Without reading this entire thread, I'm sure it's been pointed out numerous times that no one ACTUALLY gives a flying fu*k if you come back to Verizon or not, it was just a courtesy letter from the marketing department. If one out of 100 decide to come back to Verizon because of the letters, then the campaign more than pays for itself.

About 2-3 years ago I was wanting to switch to cingular, due to my credit at that time they wanted a $400 deposit for service...I went to Tmobile instead who only wanted $75.

Every month since then I have consistently received a BILL from Cingular for $400.00. When I first called them about it they said it was a curtousey, that if I decided to get the service just pay that bill and they will activate service...I've since begged and pleaded with them to stop sending the bill - WELL OVER 2 YEARS LATER I AM STILL RECEIVING THAT BILL EVERY MONTH!

You can bitch and complain about Verizon sending you a "checking on you" letter all you want, but at least they don't send people BILLS for YEARS to try and get them to activate service (that I kn...

I know exactly what Cingular is thinking too, some people won't realize whats going on, see the bill and pay it...then by the time they realize what happened the trial period is over and they are locked into whatever contract requiring a hefty cancellation fee and/or they are just hoping when someone freakin dies their heirs will pay the bill thinking it's just a bill and get locked in and have to pay the cancellation fee's.

Talk about shady...

I love these types of comments. I can't believe people actually think major Corporations have the time to sit around and figure out how to screw their customers or scheme to make more money. They are too busy handling day to day business.

Take a reading comprehension class bubs, I stated in the post that I have called them SEVERAL TIMES and just about begged them to stop, they did NOTHING and just told me to ignore the notices, that THEY DO IT SPECIFICALLY as a "convenience" for people who may want their service at a later time.

And based on your post it's obvious you know zip, zero, zlich about how businesses are run - a MASSIVE part of what companies do is figure out creative ways to make more money and when it comes down to screwing the consumer, they weigh how many consumers will perceive it that way against how much money they can make. It's not rocket science buddy. Auto manufacturers look at the cost difference of paying/settling lawsuits or initiating a recall whe...

i think i love some computer glitches. 😕 cingular just sent me a phone via DHL that i have no clue on where the heck it came from. it's a lg 1400i. (i know disco'd) i checked my bill not billed for it. got honest and called CS and spoke to several sups and they all said KEEP IT. đŸ¤Ŗ . whats even more wierd is DHL had to call me on my cell to get my new address because the one they had was an address we lived at 3 months ago. it's strange is't it. 1) because nobody knows WHERE the phone came from and 2) WHERE IN THE HECK DID DHL GET MY CELL NUMBER FROM? 😕 was it cingular? i guess i'll never know.
