Verizon New Merit program

Georgia1

Has anyone gotten this in the mail yet? I got mine yesterday, and it seems like a pretty decent deal. I have already took advantage of it. Just curious if anyone else has gotten their cards yet and what people are thinking of it.

I feel it is a good program to show thanks to the higher end users.

If you are on a plan of $79.99 or higher and have had no suspensions in the last 6 months you qualify for the program. what you get is the following.

You get free address book transfers on all lines, no more paying $10.

25% off accessories

You also get early upgrade opportunities. A person is allowed to upgrade every year at the two year promotional pricing. Of course you have to sign a 2 year contract each time, but, at lest you can get the new phones every year. This feature is good only on the primary line in a family plan. I know that this was able to be done before, but, this is actually written down as an option that we can do, not just if the CSR feels like doing it for you. And it clearly states that if you are not a ...

"on a single-line Calling Plan or a primary line on a Family SharePlan® Calling Plan with monthly access of $79.99 or higher"

Its the plan cost, not the total of a plan plus features!

ie would NOT work,..59.99 AC1350 + 20.00 Vcast with IN-TXT = 79.99 Its the total, it yours plan

So nothing in this program is able to be done through an agent? Not even the upgrade?

If this is true...yep, it sure does screw the agent channel. The only line we can upgrade we can't because we don't collect enough of a commission to discount a phone...

As far as I know nothing can be done through an agent. They're obviously going to have to go through the direct channel to get the discounts. It's just another way to get customers to contact them directly and forget about us. I love how the company works against us. You would have thought they might at least warn us about the program so we weren't clueless.

Nothing is stopping you from giving the discount if the sale is that important to you.

We can only provide handsets at a discount if VZW pays us a commission. Otherwise, losing money would be a huge roadblock for offering the phone at a discounted price. Accessories...we are already 25 percent less, so they can buy from us anyway. The phonebook transfers...I offer those for free to customers that bought from me anyway. Otherwise, I give half off. The normal charge is 10 bucks. I would try to collect five for this. Of course the customer could drive 35 miles to the nearest VZW store and use their "merits" program anyway.

The only thing in that whole package is the early upgrade. If an indirect cannot do this...I would say this is restraint of trade practices...Just my opinion.

I would think that an agent would be able to offer the early upgrades, that they would treat them like any other upgrade, just that a merit program customer has the right to upgrade every 12 months if they choose to do so. Just different guidelines to follow.

The biggest thing I would think agents would have to worry about is the 25% off accessories, even if the agent is already that price, with the merits program, all we have to do is call in, or go online and order them and have them sent to our house with now shipping charges. I know I like it better when I dont have to go into a store, find what I am looking for, and chance they might not have it on hand anyway when I can just push a few buttons and it will come to me. That is how ...

I receive my cards and info last week. I also talked to a Verizon rep to get VCast and change my program around a bit. She said that we are entitled to new every one now, as long as you have a plan over $79 a month...which I do. It costs nothing to join and that feature alone is worth it. My ne2 is up in February. I bought an E815 in July because I was having so many problems with my LG4600's and I love it! But I want to get a new phone for my finacee too, so now I can get me a new RAZR 3Vc and give her my E815! The rep tried to talk me into a LG9800, but that's not for me.

but if you upgrade your primary line, and your primary line is already a better phone than the other line, you can move your old primary phone to the secondary phone, right?

someone who is planning ahead, could put the lesser phone as "primary", and then upgrade in a year...

Also, under cingular, I can switch which line is "primary", so I can switch the phone that I want to upgrade to "primary" and then switch back...I did that when I first signed up .....actually, the sales person did it for some reason, and then I had to switch it back....but they didn't give me any grief about it.

😕 if u did get yourself a new phone are you re-starting your 2year contract from that date or are you adding two more years to you current contract?

i see weird stuff like this when customers take up a promo and it adds two more years throwing their ne2 and contract end date 12+ months apart

example: ne2 date- 11/17/05

contract end date 12/19/07

It always only starts over. It never ads on to the end. The longest out the contract will ever go would be 2 years. In your example above if that customer did their NE2 on 11/17/05 that would then make their contact go to 11/17/07 and both dates would once again be the same.

Nov 7, 2005, 11:31 PM
BUT...if I used my NE2 on 11/7/05. Then I did the early upgrade on 11/7/06 that would make my NE2 be available again on 11/7/07 and my contract would end on 11/7/08. So more or less you would get the NE2 every other time you get a new phone.

You are correct. As with the way early upgrades work currently, Merit customers will have the ability to upgrade every year, but you will only get the discounted price at that point, plus it will start your NE2 date over. Essentially, if you upgrade your phone every year, you will never receive the NE2 credit with those upgrades, just the 2 year promo price. You will still have to wait the standard 22 months from your last UPGRADE to receive the NE2 towards your upgrade.

My understanding of this program from the company perspective is that your eligible for one Early upgrade per two year cycle. So, if you upgrade on 11/07/05, your New Every 2 is on 9/07/07. If you have an eligible price plan you may upgrade after one year for a $20 processing fee. So say you upgrade on 11/07/06, your New Every 2 would start over, so it wouldn't be available until 9/07/08. Furthermore, if you were to early upgrade on 11/07/06 you would not be eligible to upgrade again until 9/7/08.

The Merit program does entitle it's members to 25% off accessories and free phone book transfers. The Early upgrade procedure is the one we have the most problems with in the stores because customers never seem to get informed of the small prin...

ATT was doing a "new every year" if you signed up for a 2 year contract.

The point is to lock you in to the 2 years after they subsidize the phone; but if you are paying $79.99/mo + then you are more than making up the subsidy for the company, and it is fair to reward you.

Just like the NE2 program is different than Cingular or Sprint or anyone else....reward your loyal customers who have demonstrated that they can keep their phone bills paid by givening them MORE off a phone than they would get from the competition. Quite the opposite of a company like T-mobile, where, depending on your plan (i was paying 39.99/mo), you may qualify for LESS of a discount than a new customer; this actively encourages you to go to a different phone com...

VZW insider, I have a question for you then. I am posting the exact copy off the merits website on early upgrade below....

Equipment Early Upgrade Opportunities
With the Merits Program membership, you'll be able to keep up with the latest in wireless technology because you'll be eligible to upgrade any phone on a single-line Calling Plan or a primary line on a Family SharePlan® Calling Plan with a monthly access of $79.99 or higher once every 12 months at our lowest promotional price when you sign a new 2 year agreement. However, if you are not a Merits Program member, you must wait 22 months for a phone upgrade.

This is the find print that I could find on it...

Some restrictions may apply. Subject to Customer Agreement and C...

This actually makes sense, since the NE2 program they are giving you an ADDITIONAL $100. If you don't want the additional $100, then we'll give you a phone every year (just like Tmobile... :lol🙂.
From a company standpoint, they will spend about the same amount either way.

I find it interesting in the context of the conversations about the 7pm nights option, that Verizon would implement a program primarily undercutting Tmobile, unless they feel that right now, they are the srongest competitor.

That's how it sounds, unfortunately there is no M&P (Verizon Employees Operating Procedures) about this yet for the NorthEast area. They may be trialing it in certain markets right now, I don't if that will have any merit on whether you get approved when you sign up or not. The Merit program has been around for a really long time, but this is the first I've heard of new phones every year with no upgrade charge. I'll be sure to repost as soon as I get confirmation on my side as to whether my original post was correct or not.

Here is the terms and conditions, I can not find anything about only being able to do the early upgrade one time in a 2 year period. And there is nothing about needing a new phone, it says keep up with the latest in wireless technology, which sounds to me like all I need to do is want a new phone. I wander if you are thinking of the old deal? And think about it, this does what verizon wants anyway, it keeps people under contract.

Terms & Conditions

Customers are automatically enrolled in the Merits program, and are not required to take any action to receive standard program benefits including the early equipment upgrade eligibility, free address book transfers when equipment changes are made and 25% off accessory purchases.*

It was designed for if you needed a new phone but they won't prevent you from upgrading if you want one, an upgrade is an upgrade for whatever purpose you want. I am going to check on the fine print part tomorrow when I'm back in the office to find out, it makes a lot of sense that since you'll never be eligible for NE2 that you can upgrade every year... but there's still the $20 processing fee. I have to dive deeper into this.
