All I need an unbiased opinion!!!!
I have Verizon now And I am happy with there coverage area,
What I am frustrated with is the quality of the treo 650, It "SUCKS" 😈
I am on my 3rd unit same problems :resetting, freezes, speaker buzz's, and loses the bluetooth connection. Verizon will not admit that there is a problem with the 650's but yet you can read on this website all the issues that everybody has with the device. Hell Palm is being sued in Calif over the same issues.
It come down to this, I have a 400.00 doorstop, Verizon will not give me my money back, and if I WANT A NEW PHONE, I have to pay full retail!!! I can leave verizon and pay them there 175. no big deal my monthly bill is over 225.
I can change providers...

Everyone will have their opinion about this but my .02 is this. When Cingular's CEO comes out in Business Week Online and basically says we are not as good as Verizon today, that pretty much ends the conversation for me.

P.S. Before I get tons of "where did you see this" notes,

BusinessWeekOnline.com, the article is titled "Getting Cingular Up To Speed" and it was edited by Patricia O'Connell.

Thanks for posting this. While I realize a big angle for this article was for Wall Street's benefit, I couldn't help wondering if this CEO personally uses Verizon versus Cingular ;-)

Verizon should hang a copy of that article in every one of it's store. It sounds like a ringing endorsement of Verizon by the CEO of Cingular. Maybe that CEO could start doing their "Can you hear me now" commercials.

Seriously, it's good to hear the CEO speaking so candidly, admitting that Verizon currently has the best network. With that type of candor and honesty, they may just someday soon meet or exceed Verizon's network.

"they may just someday soon meet or exceed Verizon's network."

Oh, I agree. Having used cell phones for well over 20 years, I have witnessed 1st hand providers going from first to worst and vice-a-versa.

Providers do go up n' down, but I don' know 'bout "someday soon", tho'. Cingular's CEO says their plan is to be to be 'best in class' by the end of 2007. That's over two years away still.

It also kinda assumes that their plan will work out, and dat Verizon don' got a 'plan' of their own. Still, I gotta give Mr. Sigman props, he admits the problem and admits Cingular ain't the best right now.

An interesting topic I hear often is the the issue between CDMA and GSM. GSM has the unlocking abilities and other uses that CDMA currently does not. GSM is the future and CDMA is the past is kind of what I hear...and this could be the downfall of Verizon someday. At least thats my understanding if and when it happens.

Any comments on that issue?

Well you said west coast and liveing in some of the most remote parts of the west coast my cingular service blows VZW away. Even when I am roaming I still get Voice mail and I dont have to be "in". Now if you really want to see the coverge just compare Cingulars gsm to VZW digital network and you will wonder what you have been doing with VZW all these years. I have alot of customers who are saying the same thing about VZW and there phones and service, tonight even I acctivated a VZW customer who was feedup with declineing service and bad CS people. here in olympia w.a. is VZW customer service center and they higher all the people that no one elese wants, like crack heads and people who can't hold jobs but they sit there and make 8 bucks a...

What you have heard has both some truths and fallacies.

Yes, it is true that between the two technologies GSM is very flexible while CDMA is not. No, it is not true that GSM is the future and CDMA is the past. Nor is it true that Verizon's use of CDMA could mean their demise.

GSM and CDMA both have their many benefits and each their own downfalls. It is true that the "future" of GSM, which lies in UMTS/HSDPA may immediately be slightly superior to the "future" of CDMA, which is EVDO. However, that is something that will eventually bring us to the hybridization of both technologies (which we have already begun to see through UMTS).

In the years to come we will either see a single technology that takes the best of both GSM and CDM...

Stay with Verizon. What you have to consider is the network, even though your particular handset has turned out to be a turkey. Yes, buying a phone at full retail is no picnic, and I know that from personal experience. However, you'll be opening up the proverbial "can of worms" by leaving Verizon for either T-Mobile or Cingular, whose networks don't even touch what Verizon has accomplished. What will be, will be. If you're living in the moment, you're with the best carrier around. Don't make a mistake and leave.

That's my two cents, for whatever it's worth.

Hum, that does sound pretty ghetto. Have you gone over the head of the cust service rep to the manager and said "Yo, this phone does NOT WORK. I need somethin' that does." An' if that didn't work, didya talk to the phone maker too?

glueman1000,

Being an employee I don't usually jump in on posts but I cant pass this one up! If you truly are on your 3rd replacement (your original purchase + 2 FRU swaps) your situation actually has a very simple resolution to it! This process was something that was offered as an unofficial process for sometime but since it was not official most were afraid to do it. But as of 9/05 there is an actual M&P covering this! Key is you actually being on your 3rd T650 and the original one was either purchased from VZW directly or an agent whose equipment is supplied by VZW. The M&P is Multi-FRU Replacement and the long story short is on or after your 3rd FRU replacement you can insist for a FRU-to-new phone exchange. So if you tr...
