hi all. I just got a treo 650 so I can get email on the road. yesterday I couldn't get email or web though. in rural maryland. here are my questions: 1. would I have any wider email coverage if I were using a bb instead of a treo, or are they both dependant on the eaxct same network? 2. how does verizon's data coverage compare to other carriers? I love me VZW voice coverage, but is data the best? I don't really want to pay to get out of my service contract but i'd like to know how vzw compares. thanks...

Both of the devices work off the same network. We recently added some extended network from other carriers but mostly in the midwest. If you got to www.verizonwireless.com check out the enhanced network map. That is generally your coverage area for web and e-mail service. It is a very large network and reliable. 🙂

so i'd see absutelý nó difference in my ability to check mail oon rural areas, based on some characteristic of the blackberry? that's what makes sense to me but for some reason my boss really wanted me to get a bb... I just want to be sure I made the right decision next time it comes up.

I use BBerry's for years and love them except for the ringer and earpiece volume, my hearing is declining. I wondered if the Treo 650's ringer and ear volume are lounder than my 7250 bberry.

Anyone know?

Thanks, Scott

I'd stick with the Treo for the moment.

Till all that gets sorted out.

Now to be biased for a second (I work for cingular), you should bring your number over to Cinuglar where you never have to worry about

We only have one map for voice and data. Are data service is everywhere our voice service is, period.

Anyway, even if you don't choose to come to Cingular, I'd still hold off on the BB for just a lit...

Cingular does not have one map for voice and data. GSM and GPRS are not congruent on the network.

Umm... Yes we do. We do have a seperate map that shows our EDGE coverage vs our GPRS coverage, but our data network (even if it's not always our high speed EDGE network) covers our entire voice footprint.

...except the procedure for updating firmware which I have done twice now. I do believe the BB is a little louder in volume when listening during phone conversations. I'm in Maryland as well.
