Received email earlier today...

Effective October 2nd, the activation fee on a 2 year contract will increase to $35. A 1 year contract price will remain the same.

So there is no difference between the two then? The 20 act fee was a promo anyway.

Ugh that sucks. That just cut my income down. I don't get paid as much on 1 year agreements as I do on 2 years.

So basically the only savings is a difference in price of phone.. and well the NE2 on the 2 year agreements.

Blah....

Just dont pitch the 1 year contracts, just say this phone is $xx.xx and the contract length is 2 years, if they ask what the difference in a 1 and 2 year are thell them they get a free phone at the end of the 2 years (up to $100 off) and the phone now is $50 less, they will save $150 if they do a 2 year.

They probably will say "im not sure if the phone is going to work for me", than you tell them they will know within 15 days if it will and they can cancel if it doesnt.

However since NE2 only applies to the primary line on a family share why would I not take a one year contract on a secondary line?

BEcause if you sign a 2 year contract you will get the phone initially for $50 cheaper

So I should lock myself into an extra $120 ($9.99 per month for months 13-24) so I can save $50 initially, doesn't make much sense to me.

Then don't do it.

A $35 act fee isn't that bad customers don't have any problem paying it, especially if you are offering them a FREE phone. I work for Cellular One and our 2 year contract act fee has always been $35. I have yet to have a customer complain about it, especially when I'm putting a good quality phone in front of them and telling them it is FREE with a 2 year contract. Also, I am personally a VZW customer and knowing that I get that $100 off at the end of my 2 year contract is a HUGE incentive to have the 2 year and to stay with VZW. I love knowing that I can get one of the highest quality/newest phones out on the market for a dirt cheap price.

A $15 increase? That's quite a lot. ☹️

Its a bad move, I think. But who knows... maybe they're looking at the partial 3Q numbers, and are doing so well that they're getting ****y. Oh well, guess they forgot the old saying, "Failure breeds success, but success breeds failure."

If you don't call customer service or go to a store for your first 2 years and pay your bill on time throughout your 2 year contract....

Yeah right, but a cool idea right? The only people that could make it 6 months on this would be people over 60. As long as they're not trying to get overly technical help (generally), I love helping older people. There's always mutual respect on the call and they rarely ever ask for free stuff. They see the value of the service and almost apologize for calling.
