Is every call center poorly mismanaged?

I am a previous coordinator for VZW in Tennessee. I am just curious if any of you folks out there know or have worked at a call center for vzw. What brought my career to an end was the awful mismanagement of the center. I am amazed that Verizon has not received any lawsuits from former employees of this center. I previously posted (several months ago) that my center required you to work unpaid on the clock to get into your systems prior to your shift start time.

NO actually i had enough and quit. Unpaid meaning they require you to log in to your computer system and have it ready so that when say 9 a.m. comes you can "clock in" to your phone and start taking calls. So basically you are working 7-8 min a day for free. You add that up to 42-56 minutes a week thats a lot of dough!

what an evil company! they actually make you start working at 0900! wow, it's one very silly complaint. just think for a sec, your workday starts at the time you start working, not at the time you pull over in the company's parking lot. besides, if you had one day off (or you suck in math) and you worked 8 horus every day, you would've paid OT. case closed

Same here. It takes me almost a full minute to log into my system. So I have to be at work around a minute to a minute and a half before my shift starts. I'm thinking about a lawsuit!

Yeah......

I log in early so I can get some work done off the clock. That way when my i-time rolls around, it's like a second break. I rarely have more than 3 follow ups to do on any given day so it's a good time to watch V-Cast, get some coffee, or go outside and get some fresh air.

If you really had a problem with the policy, why not just sign in on the phone, then sign out personal, meeting, whatever...? It shows you were there on-time and that's what they're looking for. Even if you sign out personal time, it just goes againt your availability time which nobody really looks at unless it's really bad.

I think there is a good argument they could offer that the protocol is similar to expecting someone working at Mcdonalds to bein uniform and at their station when their shift starts. Another example is that you need to clock in right at your start time.

What is the policy regarding clocking out. If you completely log out on the clock then isn't it a wash? If you were supposed to work till 9PM and begin clocking out at 9PM then you are being paid for the added minutes it takes you to log out. The clock would credit you until 9PM+.

If they have a different log out policy then stated above then you would have a stronger case.

I do not know what the policies are. Do they provide for personal time beyond what the law mandates that t...

I work in a VZW call center and they made it very clear, in training, that we are not to even turn the computers on until we log into our phones. Furthermore, we are not to be at our desks at anytime that we are logged out (ie. lunch, breaks, after work).

They are required to say that though. I have been asked often though if I'm on break asking a question, on if I'm on i-time. I usually say I'm just interested for personal enrichment and they tell me whatever.

I don't really count logging into my systems as working though. It's not like it takes any thought or effort. I've gotten to my desk 5 minutes before my shift, logged in, gotten coffee and water, changed glasses, and gotten situated in my chair and been fine. I just don't like to feel rushed like that.

O wow...an extra 15 minutes of your working day goes un paid.....it does not take that long to log into your systems man....

By the way.....we are not the Engineers or System Analysts of Verizon Wireless....we are low level hourly employees.

Get over it

I worked for a credit card company's call center years ago. It was very bad. I could not believe the policies. For one example, I could handle each and every phone call to the point that every customer had the resolution they needed and never have to call back on the same issue...but have a 3 minuted and 1 second talk time. The person next to me could have a 50 percent call back rate and have to have customers call back to get a resolution on their issue because that rep didn't take care of the situation, but that rep has a 2 minute and 59 second talk time. Year end comes up for raises...that rep would get a higher raise because 75 percent of the qualifiers for raise factor was if you were under a 3 minute talk time! Then they got so b...

Call Centers are all the same 🙂

1. If your a girl/women. wear tight clothes, like short tight skirt, tigth jeans, tight shirts unbutton. Flirt Flirt Flirt with the supervisors. They are so pathetic they will fall for anything that is skinny to mid size with a *****.

2. If your fat, old, forget it you will never have to much experience, nor the qualifications they are looking for.

3. If your a guy forget it KISS ASS big time. You will never get anywhere if you dont kiss ass because all the sluts are getting ahead of you.

4. Invite the supervisors to party's I know a bunch of sups that go to partys to score. Some even interview their own reps and give them promotions.

I worked for Echostar (dish network) in their call center for a little bit before I moved to Corporate, and its the same. Ur 'pay" time starts as soon as you are fully logged in and that usually took like 5 minutes. But there are ways to get that 5 minutes back....like workin 5 minutes AFTER you are scheaduled to leave.

It sucks, I know, but honestly, most call centers do it so I cant say Verizon is bad/evil/or whatever. call center way of life. I hate saying "get over it" but with this, thats pretty much your only option. that or quit, which u obviously did.
