Which provider is better with this phone?? Which has faster internet surfing?? Which is better with Email?? Do either limit any of its functions?? I've always been a palm user so I've been looking forward to getting my hands on one... just don't know with which provider. Help please.......

Cingular has done a great job with this phone. The Treo 650 has actually been consistently said to work the best with Cingular. Cnet.com has actually rated the Cingular version of the Treo 650 an 8.3 out of 10 which by their standards is excellent. Verizon's on the other hand has not been worthy of the editor's choice award.

With the Treo 650 on Cingular, you will actually get faster data rates with Cingular's EDGE network vs. Verizon's slower 1xRRT network. Cingular limits none of the Treo's functions, and I am not positive but I am sure Verizon may have crippled the bluetooth functionality.

I actually was in the Cingular store today and got to play around a bit with this phone, and I have to say that I really liked it.

Good job comparing two differnt technologies and making your point look better.

EDGE is Cingular's version of EVDO. EVDO is 400-700 kbps and up to 2.4 Mbps. It however isn't available on the 650.

EDGE is a software enhancement for Cingular's General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) data network that can support peak data rates up to 170 kilobits per second with average data rates of 75-135 Kbps.

well The question was which carrier has the better Treo 650 so I would say that was the answer that the asker of the question was looking for. (read the top message)

Okay, he specifically asked which network the Treo 650 would run faster on. Considering EDGE is faster than 1xRRT and those two technologies are the only ones the Tre 650 runs on, I gave him that facts. He didn't ask anything about EV-DO and even at that I should have told him to hold out for Cingular to release HSDPA later this year.

Why are you always so quick to jump on people for giving people the most beneficial information? I'm not here to make a sales pitch for Cingular, just to give somebody the most enjoyable and stress free experience possible.

Ruff... thank you for all your input. (in each of my mulitude of posts) ;-)

Whats HSDPA?? (hey you brought it up.) I'm assuming its a high speed... DPA... whatever those stand for. Will that be compatible with the treo?? Or am I gonna need to get something else in 6 months. ;-) (seems I tend to do that a lot anyways) Thanks again.

HSDPA stands for high-speed data packet access and is being released by Cingular towards the end of this year. It has data speeds of around 3-4 mbps and speed bursts anywhere up to 14.4 mbps. It will be that fastest high-speed network that any carrier will offer for quite some time.

The Treo 650 won't be compatible with HSDPA but they most likely will release a new version supporting that tech when it is rolled out by Cingular. Don't worry though, because HSDPA may not be available in your area until sometime next year. Right now EDGE is the largest high-speed data network and if you're going for a Palm device, then the Treo 650 is your best bet.

hey smart guy, if you're gonna run your cingular commercials over here, get your facts straight. the bluetooth pdas on verizon are FULLY FUNCTIONAL. ITS THE EXACT SAME PHONE.

Cnet.com has actually rated the Cingular version of the Treo 650 an 8.3 out of 10 which by their standards is excellent. Verizon's on the other hand has not been worthy of the editor's choice award.

To tell you the truth, I have never worked for a wireless company, and never will need to. I was in a Cingular store yesterday because I was looking to upgrade my phone. One of the phones I considered was the Treo 650, and by chance this post was made last night.

Why not share my opinion and do the guy (or girl) a favor. The person wanted an honest answer to a question, and he got one.

I said I wasn't positive if Verizon crippled any functions but knowing Verizon they like to cripple bluetooth right?

Also, Cnet did not give Verizon's Treo 650 the editor's choice award, because it is not the same phone.

Okay, you are officially stupid in my book. If you go back and follow through your own steps it will take you to Sprint's Treo. They are not the same thing, at all, period.

1. They have different carrier based software.
2. They have different funcionalities enabled on each device.

Cannot you not clearly read S-p-r-i-n-t? What would be the purpose of creating specific reviews for each Sprint and Verizon if it was the same phone. Take a look at any other phone on the site, and they simply do not do it.

Plus, go here, and check out if the Treo made Verizon's top phones:

Sprint and Verizon's software is custom tailored to their liking and provide different abilities to each phone. I don't quite know how Verizon's internet works but from what I hear, it isn't so wonderful to use.

Functionality? I already have stated that they like to cripple certain functions (we know which one in particular) and three people, plus a Verizon rep has said the Treo is crippled. You may say otherwise but what is that worth to me?

Simple as that.

If you are so worried that I misrepresented information then maybe it is unfortunate for Verizon that the Cnet editors did not feel their version of the Treo was worthy of getting the rating. Not my fault.

If you didn't understand the "Email Me When Available" it was because it is no longer offered, so they cannot offer a price.

The other phones listed are newer than the 7750 and they are listed as available. If it was so old, they would likewise have the same "Email Me When Available" notation.

Hard to say. Users of the CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) and GSM (Cingular) versions of the 650 seem about equally satisfied, if you read the Phonescoop user reviews:

CDMA (Verizon) version: Avg score 3.55 (out of 5), based on 41 user reviews

https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/user_reviews.php?p ... »

GSM (Cingy) version: Avg score 3.48 (out of 5), based on 39 user reviews

https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/user_reviews.php?p ... »

So I dunno... maybe read some user experiences and go from there.
