I wonder if we would be grandfathered? I would not be happy at all! 😡

I do not understand why these companies arn't going to tiered data with a more expensive unlimited option.

15 = 1 GB
20 = 2 GB
30 = 5 GB
40 = Unlimited.

Or something like that.

I'd pay $40 for unlimited. I still have 4 more days left in my billing cycle and I've used almost 4gigs.

🙄
Wtf does that have to do with anything? I'm a customer too and I don't want to lose my unlimited plan. Obviously carriers are going away from unlimited data and going toward tiered data. I'm fine with that because most people don't use a lot of data.

But I do. And given the choice between paying more for unlimited or having a cap, id pay more.

They already have stated they will be going to diff data pricing.

How much data do you truthfully use on an average month? What phone do you have?

LG Ally - 4-6gb/mo

I currently qualify for an equipment upgrade, but I will continue to wait, and wait for Vzn to come out with a real LTE smartphone that has a real slide out keyboard.

One of the reasons i early adopted a 4g smartphone. Hopefully i can keep this unlimited 4g plan grandfathered for as long as possible.

I thought that "grandfathered in" means that if I have unlimited data on my 3G smartphone, it will carry over to a 4G smartphone when Vzn finally decides to offer choice and come out with one that has a real keyboard.

There is no facts on how or if you're getting grandfathered for anything. But i know that there is a little code in Verizons billing system that differentiates between 3g and 4g. I wanted to make sure that i had the best shot to keep unlimited 4g so i got a 4g phone with the unlimited plan before they had the chance to change the plans.

Well, of the 2 out thus far the Droid Charge is the only one I would consider. I really, really like that Super AMOLED Plus display.

i would assume they will run the unlimited data plans the same as att is now. can keep unlimited if you are already on it and dont remove it. Anyone that gets a smartphone after they change would onyl be able to pick outta the avaible plans. If they change people from unlimited to a limited plan without them asking for a limited plan, great way to piss alot of people off. Htc thunderbolt i use about 6-9gigs, i also do not have any home internet.

Would depend on what the others offer but they will all follow the leader in prices. Even though I read my email all the time I have never approached 1gb. Still I don't loike worrying about it. I think I pay Verizon too much for the Internet between Fios and this. I am a firm believer in government regulation but I don't think that will come back any time soon.

Dumping the $30 minimum data charge per line for mid range users like myself might be the only way to get me to stay!

Hey Cellstudent! I have some news to share w/u! This past friday I got the Droid Charge! So I'm living the LTE life now. Fastest d/l speed I've gotten thus far is 34mb/s, and fastest u/l speed thus far was 9.4mb/s.

I decided to get the Droid Charge because of the Super AMOLED Plus display and the phyiscal buttons at the bottom rather than touch capacitive. Also the other reason was due to fear of not being able to use my unlimited 3G rate plan on a 4G smartphone adter evil tiered data is implemeted. Based on AT&T's measly 2GB alotment these carriers dont offer a reasonable amount of data to make having a smartphone worth having.

So now I will be ok because I will have unlimited 4G into the future, and will be able to use my smaetphone ...

Yeah, yeah I know I went against my
philisophical beliefs about smartphones

I did it because of the looming tiered data plans and I wanted ti make sure I secured unlimited 4G data.

Super AMOLED is frinkin awesome!!!!
And it sure is nice having more internal memory. I can download a whole lot more apps w/o getting low memory warnings. And LTE is way awesome. On the speedtest.net app I get 20+ mb/s quite often.

And yes I have a 2600mAh extended battery on the way, should recieve it tomorrow.

Have fun. Keep me posted on your battery life experience. I'm still not convinced Super AMOLED Plus should have any better power consumption than the Super AMOLED. Check out eh white screens as well- do they look extremely blue compared to your Motorola? I haven't had a chance to play with one yet.

White looks fine. Don't have the Motorola anymore. I still have my LG Ally though.

With reguards to battery power, well you know I cant leave my smartphone alone,
At work 2hrs into my shift it's damn near
half dead. I watch a lot of news videos and do speed tests, I'm lovin LTE!!!!!

I do have an extended battery on the way,
2600mAh's.

Pointless to leave to anything other than a month to month plan. All the other services already have..or soon will go to a tiered non-unlimited plan setup.

What I don't get is why the heck they are offering such horribly small limits? We finally get 4G speeds and now they are going to limit it to basically email and some browsing bandwidth? 4G will offer full streaming of movies and much more data.. and now we're going to have to pay hundreds per month to enjoy that speed.

So.. the massive profits they make give us 4G, but mean while they are going to make even more profit for all of us that will start to stream more movies and such on our large 4+" screens (big enough to somewhat enjoy movies/videos). I feel like we're being cheated (...

I just got my Droid Charge 8 days ago and I've already used 5GB's. Watching news videos, slaxker internet radio.

And btw, Vzn's LTE is much faster than 6mbps. My speeds are almost always above 6mbps, more like 12,15,17, even above 20mbps on occasion. The fastest speed I've gotten has been 34mbps down, and 9.4 up. Using the speedtest.net app.

I decided to get the Droid Charge now so I can lock myself into an unlimited 4G rate plan and not have to worry about these unreasonable data alotments.

When I Said unreasonable data alotments I was referring to the measly 2GB's that ATT offers, whick in my opinion renders smartphones useless.

There is no point in whining about it anymore.... The data plans are changing and the prices are not going to be good. Did see some numbers out there and $30 for unlimited is going to be a prayer for everyone once the new prices come out. I agree about the new phones, new capabilities and now they are going to limit the usage? WTF were they thinking with this? $50 is going to be a prize for the high end users out there. Grandfather is going to be a must or the customers will leave in droves. Really wondering how long the price change with the limited data is going to last before it starts affecting the bottom line.

If we already have unlimited data we should be okay according to this.
