Thinking about leaving Verizon...Thoughts?

Lagwagon

May 20, 2005, 11:49 AM
Went into Verizon the other day to get a new phone...and I'm sick of the lousy phone selection...there are plenty of cool GSM handsets available. I know there are some network differences, but come on...how bad can they be. Looking for some thoughts here. Thanks! 😉

If you are happy with verizon, I would stay with them, you know how their system works.

On the phone issue, I used to have the same thoughts, phone selection sucks, camera phone after camera phone. But, I went wit the LG7000, and that phone is awesome, I am glad I went with it, I dont use the camera very much, but, I do admit it is nice to have it every once in a while. You have 15 days to try it out, try it, if you dont like it, you can return it and cancel everything, including the contract.

If that doesnt sound good to you, try Ebay, you can get a lot of the older phones they used to carry brand new off of ebay, a lot of times, it is dealers just clearing them out since they are no longer offered. Just be sure to buy from a good...

go with the 8000, great phone, great reception, I am loving it right now!...stick with verizon, cingular and t-mobile are both a joke...a hot new phone is only gonna be cool for a month or so, then something else will be out and what becomes more important is reception and customer service.

Be very careful about changing to another carrier, esp. if you use your phone out of town a lot! I used to be with Sprint (up to about 1 1/2 years ago). I think Sprint has the coolest collection of phones, with mobil TV, and lots of good plans. But I always had big troubles when I traveled out of town--people who tried to call me from my home town couldn't get through, not even to my voice mail. Also, even in town, the call quality was not very good, with lots of noise. I thought by now that their problems may have been solved, but I have friends from out of town who visit my town with their Sprint phones, and always have a lot of problems. And this is in Chicago where there service is supposed to be good. Also, whenever anyone is cal...

Honestly speaking i just left verizon about 17 days ago and went to sprint, i have no regrets...I thought that by having verizon i would have an extreme advantage over the rest of the people who have other carriers but if you live in any reasonable area that has people then any carrier besides t-mobile you will get service. Plus other carriers have better plans that might end up fitting your needs. At first i was very hesitant but not i am truly happy with what i got from sprint. The gave me 700 Minutes Fair and Flexible plus free TV, Ready Link, Internet, and the works for 2 months plus only 5 more dollars for 7pm nights. Not to mention Free PCS to PCS for as long as i stay with them. So in total you are wondering wow this guy must be ...

Have you ever seen a Nextel coverage map? It's laughable at best. Decent in the east but absolute trash west of the Appalachian Mountains.

I haven't read into the technical details of the merger, but doesn't Nextel use iDen and not CDMA? How's that going to work? Anyway, the 3rd largest carrier buying the 5th will still leave them in 3rd place.

I think Motorola or someone was talking about making CDMA/iDEN hybrid phones. So to take advantage of Sprint-Nextel's combined coverage, you're going to have to go out and get a new phone.

When they become available, of course.

have fun with GSM, i worked for Cingular until Sept of last year ( went to VZW after that), and GSM sucks. I have had my VZW phone for about 5 yrs now even when at cingular and even though cingular offered me emp disc. I choose to stay with VZW. GSM and the GPRS sstem their data runs off of sucks. In my area, NC, tri-mode is the only way to go. GSM has its strong points but lacks off of major roads and in large building areas. When i was at UNCC i noticed that when i tested new CIngular phones they didn't have service in the campus. I had a RF engineer look into it, and he reported to me that there is no service on the campus's main buildings and courtyards and only had service on the roads that went around the university......howm ma...

Sept of last year? So 8 months ago? Alots changed for Cingular the past 8 months =)

If you do change from Verizon I would suggest Cingular if they have a phone you like. GSM coverage has improved. Look into it!

With Cingular you will have 30 day buyers remorse period to test your phone/service and make sure it will work to YOUR satisfaction.
If not... Return it and go back to Verizon.

Simple and with the 30 day buyers remorse it keeps your options open.

Just keep one thing in mind. This is YOUR service. Use the companies buyers remorse period to your advantage to make sure you are going to be happy with your choice. If your not happy or satisfied and your within which ever company you choose buyers remorse period then ...

well actually it hasn't changed too much. My girlfriends mom works with a local partner of theirs as wireless ops manager for the company, and for the most part especially in NC, the service has only increased to what their coverage map advertises(which by the way is still less than VZW), and also my friends at Cing still keep me in some of the loop. Yes it is your service and service may not work for someone in their area and if it doesn't then find someone that does work, but my first company of suggestion is VZW and if the whole phone selection is a big thing...remember almost every year they replace the model you bought. Depending on where you live my next choice for a NSP would be Alltel or Cing.

that whole statment was BS

"Sony ericsson phones don't do well on Cing and neither do LG or MOto..only Nokias on Cing. So basicall you are down to one manufacturer for phones from Cingular, theres a big selection."
maybe in your area that maybe ? who knows but again i doubt it we have a wide selection of phones some get better reception than others but hell my motorola v600 gets way better reception than any nokia on the market !

sounds to me that you probable got fired from cingular and you are bitter towards the company

That'd be a good name for a phone or phone company. Highway Wireless. It'd be awesome. TONS of minutes for real cheap, whatever phone you want, for free and zero coverage. Wait... That'd be TMobile... Dang, they stole my idea.

VZW has the highest testing standards for its handsets in the entire wireless industry. That's why it takes longer for them to get new phones.
