😲
This is something that really sucks to find out after the purchase.

I would love to know all the phones that are not compatible with Backup Ass. from people that know.

I could spend all day reading reviews on Verizon's web site to find out but thought this may be easier.

Am I correct that the Palm's and the Kin's are not compatible?
Are ALL the LG's compatible?

correct me if I'm wrong, but the Palm should have it's own computer backup...

IDK about the Kin...

Yes. But the problem is when someone is upgrading from a dumbphone and have backup assistant and want to restore their contacts to their new Palm or whatever. Maybe their store doesn't have a cellebrite or (*gasps*) insists upon charging them $10 to transfer their contacts?

Have you already upgraded? Does the store not have a cellebrite? Once you convert to a smartphone your data will be backed up to multiple sources.

Kin line: These phones are WORTHLESS period. DO NOT BUY.

Palm Pixi/pre: These phones have their own backup system, but it's not compatible with backup assistant.

Samsung Haven isn't compatible because it can't get online.

All other current phones should work fine.

That's the thing. I think the newer Blackberries and maybe Android phones have a backup assistant application one can download. Can't imagine why anyone is buying a Palm but (*Shrug*) to each his own.

thanks Menno. Thats what I wanted to know.. Would be a crappy surprise after a purchase..

Azeron, I can see the hot spot being attractive with a palm considering it would save $50 a month otherwise spent on a MIFI, but too many negatives to even balance that out.

There is a reason that the Hot Spot feature is only free on the Palm.

Although most phones have BU, I would recommend buying one on what fits your needs rather than if it has this feature you will use one time. All android handsets backup via gmail anyways regardless of whether or not they have backup assistant.

That's fine, but this user wants to use backup assistant to restore to the new device. Sure after that it won't be an issue, but the user does not want to transfer the contacts by hand. Now if there is a store that will make a transfer via cellebrite free of charge...problem solved. Otherwise, this user has been using backup assistant for years probably and it has been all for naught.

I always go forward on the basis that the user wants to find a reputable store to do business with. Unless their phone is damaged somehow and a cellebrite is not an option I would hope they choose a phone on the best fit long term.

L. Anne: my point EXACTLY

There is no need to assume here. This poster has confirmed what the issue is. If there were a store willing to make the transfer from the previous handset free of charge I do not think this post would have appeared.

Could you please clarify:

Are you unable to find a store to purchase from that will do your contact transfer?

I can log into Backup Assistant right now and export my contacts to a CSV file and then import it into any device currently available on Verizon Wireless.

We did a thing on this on PhoneCan, long before it took off. I'll have to check, but the information should still be very relevant.

This link explains how to save your Backup Assistant data to CSV file. Once it's in this format, you can import it into another line's BA, import it into Outlook, Blackberry, Google, Hotmail, Yahoo, and others. You can even import it into a new Palm, with this link:

Once you have Backup Assistant up and running, you can always get your data off their web site, which is usually best accessed at
