Ok..so here is the question?

yeahright

With the 4 4g devices that went on display at CES.. It makes me think.. If the IPhone does actually get announced on Tuesday, if it is not LTE...who cares?

I know there would still be fanboys out there who would still grab it, but seriously.. why would anyone go crazy over it if it comes out with 3G speeds?

Just a thought and curious to know this..
Anyone in here.. would you rather have a 3g Verizon Iphone or pass for one of the new 4g monsters coming out?

To add to this, one of the many arguments that iPhone enthusiasts have been using for some time now is the fact that AT&T's 3G is noticeably faster than Verizon's 3G. In cases where people go from an AT&T iPhone to a Verizon iPhone, they would notice such a difference, and it would likely frustrate them. In cases where someone goes from a Verizon phone of any sort to a Verizon iPhone, they wouldn't have lost any speed, so such a change would be acceptable.

Launching a Verizon iPhone with 3G inside seems more and more a nod to current Verizon holdouts than to swaying anyone from other carriers. Now 4G would be a bombshell - you could theoretically see people jumping en masse for a 4G iPhone, especially since AT&T isn't going to have a 4...

I suppose that if a 3g iPhone is launched, then I would suffice to say that a one year contract would work best for this situation because it's only a matter of time (probably this year) for a 4g iPhone to come.

I have my NE2 in March. If the iPhone does come out, it will be an impulse move whether I bite the bullet and go for it and just sign up for a 1 year contract. Nice thing about having the upgrade in March is that if the iPhone isn't what it is cracked up to be on VZW, all the LTE phones will be avail for my liking.

2012 is when ATT has stated they will be launching a 4G/LTE iPhone. I wouldnt expect us to get one before then, although stranger things have happened. If the iPhone comes and its 3G, I will probably get one on my normal account, and pass it to the wife. If its LTE then I will put it on my dealer account.

If you go with a one year upgrade you will lose the NE2 feature.

sure but that wouldn't matter anyway for that the NE2 will be bye bye in less than a week.

No. They won't add the feature to contracts going forward. They won't remove the feature from existing customers. It is an existing feature as part of their contract agreement.

So you are saying that at the end of my contract if I upgrade and I have so sign a new contract that my NE2 wouldn't go away? Almost doesn't make sense. hmmmm

No. I am saying that if you signed a two year contract BEFORE this NE2 policy change then you will receive one last NE2 credit IF you sign another two year contract.

Sounds like you will be eligible for NE2 just as these new 4G phones are due to be released. So at that point you will have the choice of upgrading with a one year contract or a two year contract. Typically phones are $70 more on 1 year than 2 but if you factor in the $50 (likely) NE2 credit then you are looking at a $120 boon. Upgrade on-line with an instant rebate (if they still offer those for on-line customers) and you could be getting a nice discount.

All of which makes it sound like it won't be the holy of holy's; seems to be poor timing and with no LTE for about a year it just doesn't make sense to me but that's just me. Putting a true 4G iphone on Vz first would really be a finger in the eye of ATT. There would be bad blood for years over this, I don't see Sir Jobs making that bad a business decision myself.

Let's see... No iphone on VZW versus a "mere" 3G one. Hmmmmmm... I'll take the 3G one.

The Win-back team will be busy. As low as VZW's churn is now, having a tool such as a CDMA iphone will be that much better.

There are going to be hoards of consumers who want to buy it. Many will be those who have dumb phones and are intimidated by smart phones but already know someone with an iphone and have confidence that they can navigate an iphone. The iphone isn't for you and your techno-superior peers. We get that. We REALLY do. Fortunately, there are ordinary phone users who will make up the market for a Verizon iphone. At the end of the day it is all about choice.

I was just curious if anyone in here that is up on this stuff would pick a 3g Iphone over a 4g droid.. I know your average joe will just because of branding

Your right; it's strictly a branding thing. I loved it when a reviewer for the Sammy Galaxy series overseas referred to the iphony as a "womans phone", saying he couldn't really compare the two. It does seem that Android is moving past ios at a rapid clip but for most people who buy it they don't care. It's not the crApple products, by and large their very decent, it's the sheeple that go with them, can be very hard to stomach imo.

For many people the iPhone is very easy to use, and because of the prevelance of iPod touches its also familiar to them already. As people have said those who are on a dumb phone now, and are afraid or just worried about having too much phone, could probably easily make the jump to a 3G iPhone on Verizon, and not worry about knowing how to operate it.

As far as the elitist attitude displayed by those who have an iPhone, or have an Android device. Its from each side. I have talked to many people who fully use the iPhone(not just a gaming device), and it more than meets their needs with the variety of Apps that are offered, same with Android. I have also met people who use the iPhone as nothing more than a portable gaming device or an i...

there is a response i completely agree with. i have plenty of friends with iphones or android phones... and yet they both do the exact same things on them. email, games, and facebook/twitter. both OS do the same things. just preference.

I actually have no plans to purchase an iphone as I just upgraded to the Incredible. However I will be happy that the option is available to Verizon customers at last.

I guess we will all see what happens in the next couple of months. March will be a good test of what's to come. Only if VZW didn't do away with the 30 day return policy.....
