Droid 2 update???

I read that VZW is pushing an OTA software update for the Droid2. Every time I go to the update section of settings it says, "Update not available at this time, try again later." Is it my phone/corp IT blocking this, or is it taking a long time to push this out?
Thx.

Updates are pushed out in waves. If an update comes out, you might get it early, or you might get it in a few days.

True, but my understanding was that this update was available for self download a couple of weeks ago. Just trying to figure out if my I.T. guy is being an anal retentive security gnome. 👀

No. An IT guy couldn't change your update status. One time I got an update early another time I had to wait weeks. This is just the nature of Android. When your number's up you'll get the update.

As cellgeek82 said, your IT guy has no control over this. If you had a Blackberry, yes. Droid 2, no.

An Android software update is never available for self-download. There's really no such thing. The update is pushed to your device once your specific serial number comes up in their computer, and only after they've officially announced an update (a rumor post on Engadget does not equal an official release).

The only thing that's somewhat "self-download" would be a rooted installation (basically, a hack), which voids your warranty, leaves you high and dry with a dead phone if you happen to mess it up, and might not be compatible with any custom applications from IT. Not for the common user, for sure, but not too hard that it can't b...

Actually that's not 100% true. Motorola and Samsung both allow you to pull the update once it's been made available. HTC doesn't. Once a Motorola update goes live on the server you don't have to wait for it to be pushed to you. You can simply check for update and download it. The same goes for Samsung. HTC makes you wait, like you stated until they push it to you. I did this myself on the Droid X when 2.2 became available. I learned this all over on androidforums.com.

Interesting how I've had three updates to my Droid, knowing the exact day that they were launched (seeing as how I get emails on updates), checked numerous times within the day, only to have to wait a day or more. I must have done something wrong.

Hmmm. I'm not sure. I know that's what people over there said. As soon as the update was available for the X myself and everyone else were able to go to check for updates and download it. I don't recall anyone not being able to pull it down.

When the software updates hit the system, I've tried the update checker, I've pulled the battery, and I've done power cycles, all with no effect. If I wait, it eventually pops up.

There's an update for my Incredible due out in the next few days (haven't seen the email yet, got the SMS on it today). So I might get it within two weeks. 🙂

As I said, it doesn't work with HTC. Only with Motorola and Samsung Android devices. For some reason HTC doesn't allow you to pull. Maybe that's why? You said Droid before so I assumed you meant the Motorola Droid, but I see now you said the Incredible. 🙂

Sorry, tired, should have been more specific.

I have the Incredible AND the Droid. Incredible is my personal phone. Droid is one of my work phones.

Updates on my Droid work just like they do on my Incredible. I can wait, fiddle, wait, fiddle, wait, and fiddle some more, but in the end I'll end up letting the phone get the update all by itself. It's been that way through three software updates on the Droid, and two on the Incredible.

I think I found the prob. In the wifi settings, I had "connect to social networks only with wifi" checked. I couldn't subscribe to news feeds either. I unchecked it, and viola! the update popped up, and I now get news too!

Well, so much for "instant gratification!" (I want it right now 😡 ) Thanks for the info. I was using a BB before- so the root of my concern.
