It depends on what your needs are.

If you need unlimited, $30 will continue to be the way to go. If you're a lighter user, you can do the $15 for 150MB option, starting October 28.

Unfortunately, we on Verizon will only receive 150MB for $15, unlike AT@T, where their subscribers receive 200MB for $15.

And, fortunately, Verizon cutomers will continue to enjoy unlimited service for $30, where AT&T customers cannot. I wish Verizon had gone to 200MB, sure, but being able to do unlimited was a much bigger consolation. Do a little searching on the AT&T $25 data plan and you'll find a lot of people upset that they no longer have access to an unlimited plan (unless they're grandfathered).

Not that it makes much difference, but the overage on an extra 50MB of data is only $5, and still cheaper than unlimited. And it was probably designed that way.

Is it that how it will work, or will it be up to another 150MB for an added $15? I recall having read the latter. The former is less onerous.

My information shows that the overage rate will be $0.10/MB, which comes out to $5 for 50 MB. If you use much more than that in overage, though, it makes more sense to be on unlimited.

The way I use data, it would be rare for me to go above the 150MB limit. It's nice to know, though, that if I do, I won't be gouged too badly. Thanks.

Glad to help.

I know my wife could use the new plan on her Blackberry, where I need to continue with unlimited. It's nice to have the lower option, since it will fit our needs.

Looks like I was wrong. It IS $15 for 150MB of overage. My information was incorrect, sorry.

This will still work for my wife's line. I guess another $15 isn't too bad, since I'm currently paying $30 anyway. It's still 10 cents per megabyte, but in a bucket of 150 MB.

Sorry about the incorrect information. I think my original source had figured the overage worked out to 10 cents per MB, but neglected to mention that it was in a $15 bucket.

I'd much rather see it a flat 10 cents/MB.

I agree. Hopefully, I'll stay under the initial 150MB charge. Still it's a little upsetting that Verizon charges $15 more than AT@T for 200MB, especially combined with the fact that Verizon also charges an extra $15 for a BES connection that AT@T doesn't charge.

But Verizon still offers unlimited, which can be important with this device.

I have been with VZW for quite a while and have always had excellent customer service via the phone (dialing 611). In the past they have been able to review my call history as far as minutes of airtime used each month on our family plan to determine if I could lower my tier, say from 1400 to 700 shared minutes. Would they be able to review my account details and advise me on data usage and tell me if I have been consistently under the 150mb amount on my BB that currently has an unlimited data plan?

Not only can they tell you if the 150MB data plan would make sense for you, they can help you log into your own account online and see all of your minute and data usage for the past year.

I have our acct. set-up online so I think I'll log-in and research it that way. I knew it would provide usage for the current billing cycle, I just didn't know it would include usage history.

Just to confirm - is this $15 plan available for a BlackBerry device?

Thanks.

It is available for that device, and blackberry's are really the only smartphones that I think it's really viable on, depending on usage.

I second that.

When you're online, you can chose which month of usage you look at. I'd look at the last three months - if you went over once, look back six months. If you go over two out of the last three months, look at it again in a few months.

If you go over once in six months, I'd still go with the 150MB plan. Once or twice a year, you pay double the monthly - an extra $30 in a year But the other ten months of the year, you saved $150.

If you're close to 150MB, it's better to just keep the unlimited. If you go over by 1MB, you're paying the same as unlimited.

That's sound advice. I went online today with VZW and reviewed my data usage for each month going back to January which is when I purchased my Curve. The average usage was 103mb and I only went over 150mb once which was the first month I had my BB (big surprise). I guess I'll have to call in the request to change that feature because when I attempted to change the data feature for my line it only showed two data package options; $44.99 for unlimited web & email for corporate use and $29.99 for unlimited web & email for personal use.
