EV-DO laptop reliability
nextel18 said:Yeah, but 1mbps connections across Verizon's entire EV DO network for $80 bucks a month? That's a lot of freedom. And speeds will only get better.
i have tested it and i dont belive its worth the 80 bucks per month. i think its wayy too much for only the speeds that they are targeting. when i tested it i barely saw over 1mb/s.
nextel18 said:Okay. Say that across the current EV DO network, 300-600mbps is the norm. That's 300-600mbps across Verizon's entire EV DO network (which is very rapidly expanding), and anybody can take advantage of that no matter where they are on the EV DO network. That's certainly worth $80 bucks a month to a lot of people if they're paying $50 bucks a month for cable or DSL broadband. It gives peop...
but the problem is, who knows if its 1mb/s across the entire network? they advertise 300-600kb/s. but at 80 bucks per month thats way to much. speeds wont get better on the REV O network, however if they deploy REV A speeds are a lot higher then 1.5mb/s. (who knows if they will go to REV A after deploying REV O)

i think your missing one thing. when more people get onto the network the SPEEDS WILL GO DOWN, NOT UP!!! (even if you keep deploying cell sites increasing capacity)
"That's certainly worth $80 bucks a month to a lot of people if they're paying $50 bucks a month for cable or DSL broadband. It gives people a lot of freedom. "
no its not. people want to pay a decent amount for decent speeds. why do you think that flarion (for the nxtl trial) was only going for $35-80. becuase people dont want to spend 80 bucks per month for only 300-600kb/s. when i had people...

nextel18 said:Okay. Great. I don't understand anything about the wireless industry. I'll just admit that before I even attempt at being rude to you.
i know.. becuase you dont know how wireless works and it seems like you dont understand how data transmits that well.
"Quickly download complex files and view email attachments at typical speeds of 400-700 kbps, capable of reaching speeds up to 2 Mbps"

"Maximum possible speed varies. It declines with distance from cell site and is limited to 1.54 Mbps at certain cell sites with backhaul limitations. Number of users on the Verizon Wireless BroadbandAccess network may also affect maximum possible speed."
Thanks guys for your input. I do think $80 is kind of expensive but I think being able to take it just about anywhere makes up for that
"
you are welcome. you should realize this, when you go away from the cell site and when there are many people on that cell site speeds will decrease. so who knows if you will be gettin 300-600kb/s or even 1.5mb/s. the point is this; wait till umts/hsdpa comes out and then sprint's EVDO rev A, which is at faster speeds and we know sprint does a better job with data then verizon. just my input. i would wait if i were you.
thats my opinion. let us know on how your trial goes.
2005; Complete Phase 1 EV-DO deployment
2006-2007; Complete 100% overlay of
EV-DO Rev. A
hope that helps.
Most carriers charge $80 for unlimited data on a laptop, so why not just take what's the fastest NOW because in a couple years you aren't tied down to a contract anyways, and if someone has something better you could go to them easily.
well the 80 bucks for only 300-600kb/s is not worth it. thats just my take.
i just think as providers come out with REV O, REV A, umts/hsdpa that should push down prices becuase of competition. i just think people should wait then they can choose the product/solution that they like.
