To say I had trouble trying to get an early upgrade to the Bold 9650 would be an understatement. Numerous phone calls and various tactics led me nowhere. I was issued a review unit (that sadly has to be back in two weeks) so I was eager to get my upgrade so I would have a Bold 9650 to use. Although I've since gotten over my new toy envy, I still wanted the device. Well yesterday I was tipped off to this thread in the forums, where a good number of members were saying they had been issued a Bold 9650 as a replacement for their busted Tour 9630. Being that my device was still under warranty, I figured I'd give it a whirl myself.

After ca

That only works if the Tour you're trying to get replaced has only been active on your account. My buddy got a Tour from his buddy and was experiencing trackball problems. When he called in and they tried to do a warranty replacement the rep said that he couldn't because the phone had been previously active on another account thereby voiding the warranty.

That is crap. He needs to esclate the issue. If the phone has been constantly active on a VZW account VZW should replace the unit. I had the same issue because I have to switch accounts when I have a warranty issue from my Verizon billed agent principal line (free) to my consumer line. They gave me the same line and I asked for a supervisor. The rep came back and said she stood corrected and processed the exchange.

NOW, if the phone gets to be over a year since it was released they will have grounds to stand on. I argued that since the Tour is less than 1 year since it's launch there is no way the phone would be out of warranty. I also argued that BB supplies the warranty units and if they got mine back and it was out of warranty I...

Sounds like you hit upon a known issue with the device. Either that or a bored or disgruntled tech rep. Congrats either way!

GPS failure is a known issue? Hmm...

I wonder why the Blackberry Rep didn't know (yes, VZW tech support actually transferred me to BB Tech Support)?

They are completely out of Blackberry 9630 Tour replacements. They cannot send what they do not have. Although the new one is not a full kit. It is just the handset itself.

Yea, they usually end up sending the FRUKIT boxes (which include everything in there) and ONLY require the phone back. They don't even require the backs or the batteries back.

Send everything back they asked you to send. Don't just assume its ok to keep the extra. Its your bill that gets charged, not ours so don't follow any advice here.
