Best Buy

I am eligible for the new every two plan on my family plan, giving me a $100 credit toward the purchase of new phone. I went by best buy to look at phones and they have the Motorola Droid on sale for $99. The very nice best buy sales person said that technically, they do no honor the NE2 credit, but they do price match, so I could buy the Droid and they would then honor the $100 credit, giving me the phone for free. She then went on to explain that they cannot access the account to take the $100 credit off, so the credit would actually remain on the account at verizon, allowing me to use it later for one of the other lines i have.

Does this sound correct?? Thank you for your time!!

If they can sell you the phone for free, all power to you. They don't have access to the NE2 program. But if they were to price match, you'd get the phone for $99.99 anyway, because that would be your price, after rebate, with NE2 at Verizon.

Once you renew your contract, Verizon will take off your $100 NE2. It WILL NOT stay on your line. Your NE2 is based on your contract, which you're about to renew at Best Buy.

So Best Buy might be wrong twice here. First on the price match, second on the contract. They obviously know what they're doing...

Epik is right on both things.

Once you upgrade even if you don't use the NE2 the dates will be reset to 20 months from the upgrade date. You will NOT still have your NE2.

i can live without the credit still being on my account, since the credit will be for the primary lines upgrade, and i will use the primary line upgrade to get the droid. i just wanted to make sure i could get the droid for free, at best buy, since it would cost me 199 online. it didn't really make since to me when she expained it to me. they have price matching, not credit matching. oh well, i will find out soon i guess!!!

Just to advise you, if anything happens to your devices within the first 30 days, you will be directed back to the best buy store. Corporate stores will not exchange the device in the 30 day period.

If you have a $100 NE2, the phone would cost you $99.99 on Verizon's web site. That's because the online price starts at the discounted rate of $299.99, has a $100 "online credit" which is also known as an instant rebate. ON TOP OF THAT, you would have your NE2 credit of $100. You have to sign in and go through much of the purchase process to see the NE2 credit taken off. Again, Verizon's online price, assuming you're correct that you have a $100 NE2 credit, will end up being $99.99.

In a Verizon store, the price will be similar, except no "online credit" instant rebate, since you're not buying it online. You have to send in the rebate, which usually takes 2-3 weeks to get back. Your final price in the Verizon store will be $99.99.

They will price match, at least the store down here in San Diego did. My wife upgraded to the Storm2 (go figure, I tried to show her other stuff but....I guess she's a BB kinda girl). They price matched so in essence we got the phone for free BUT of course we had to pay the sales tax so it ended up costing about $50 if I remember correctly.

Big Red; the on line price ended up being..I seem to remember around $0 with the NE2. not sure I remember correctly about the shipping or sales tax but Best Buy took my word for it and gave us the phone for just sales tax. And ya, Ca is certainly tax happy 🙄 If we went to the Vz store I would have had to mail in the rebate and on line would have had to wait (she wanted it NOW; you know how that goes
lol). Her phone had been stolen so it was getting pretty damn important!

whats the difference if i was to go to wal mart and get the droid for 19.99 which they say they will do on the primary line of a family plan? I know i have to keep the same plan for 181 days, i have had this plan for years if you count my time with Alltel. 181 days is not a problem. anyone ever upgraded using Wal Mart?? Thanks again for you time!!!

I did but dont expect much help from them. For example, I bought my Storm there for a hell of a deal. It was 50 in store and I got a 100 dollar gift card for Wal-Mart. I couldnt turn it down. For some reason VZW system automatically populates a BB BES plan for 45 dollars instead of the 30 dollar BIS plan. I asked the rep/clerk to change it to a BIS plan, but he didnt know what I was talking about. I said nevermind, I will take care of it.

Basically, buyer beware and do your own research before you buy. And dont expect another agent to bend over backwards fixing any issues or answering any questions about your new phone.

well, i have never heard anything good about lets talk, who is really the reseller at walmart. so i called the best buy store i went to the other day and got a different story about the 100 dollar credit. they cant see the credit and wont honor it, so the phone will be 99 bucks.

then i asked her if they will price match walmart and she said without hesitation that she had no problem giving me the phone for 19.99. she said she would hold one for me. if only i was not so damn busy that i can't get down there today!!!

It worked. I got it Monday from Best Buy for $19.99. Guy who sold it to me was super helpful, did an alternate upgrade, and i was "working when i left." Thanks for all your suggestions.
