is still more expensive...

And even if Sprint AND T-Mobile can talk&surf - AT&Ts ads vs Verizon are still true -- Verizon cant do it (While soon EVERYONE else will be able to)

Happy AT&T customer here. If I wasn't AT&T, I'd be Sprint.

Better phones. Better customer service. Better bills. Across the board.

Yes, that is true about Sprint plus you get more data services for less. When the iPhone comes to Sprint...in 4G no less in a couple of months, lookout!

Rumors and speculation - until either/both companies announce it.

Unless you have a press release from either saying so?

I still personally doubt VZ will get an iPhone. They are better off without the iPhone anyway. Same for Sprint.

A page of "Is iPhone coming to Sprint?" on different forums don't count as press releases.

First result? mac.com "Is iphone coming to sprint?"
Second result? Article... first line "Lots of speculation" including this articule...

Crap, crap and more crap.

Hate to tell you... I can do a google search for UFO sightings as well - but where's the proof?

Might it happen? Sure.
Might the rumors have a spec of truth? Sure.

But it's nothing but hearsay until Apple/Sprint/Verizon announces otherwise.

Hell... I can find a recent quote from Verizon CEO saying "We want the Apple, but Apple hasn't decided yet" (paraphrased). Double hell... that quote was news on Phonescoop.

You might as well also ask, "Why does Hyundai still make cars today when they were downright abysmal in the late 80s - early 90s? The quick and short answer here is because they eventually got their thoughts about re-imaging the perception of the brand together, which has lead them to where they are today. Adding a car like the Hyundai Genesis was a step to merely an icing on the cake compared to the work in progress that was being undertaken since the early 90s. Once they got their image to point where they could take the next step and attack the bigger player's market, they launched the Azera and eventually the Genesis. Yes they lost a lot of money in the proc...

Verizon will be able to do it as well (with 4g).

And as others have said, if it was really a dealbreaker, Verizon could do it now. But it's not a dealbreaker for enough people that Verizon's going to update all their networks with the updated coding/hardware and push an update to all their devices to do it. the coding exists to allow Data+voice with current EVDO products and technology. But it would most likely cost billions to roll out, billions that could instead be spent on 4G, which is faster and does the same thing,

Sprint is already in that direction in like 27 or so cities across the U.S. It would be nice to have Verizon's company there as well. AT&T's days are numbered, clearly...

So would a Sprint 4G device be able to roam on a prospect VZW network then in the near future?
...

No. Verizon's already stated that they don't have an interest in working to combine WIMAX and LTE for roaming. It might be possible several years down the road, but Clear/Sprint are going to pay quite a bit for the ability.

OK Good to know! Atleast I'll stay 3g for atleast the next 12 months coming until the changes are out there to support 4G Sprint roaming capabilities on VZW's network.

sunilsonia wimax and lte are never going to beable to roam on each other. Lte is like GSM on roids, not some super wifi. If Sprint wants to roam off VZ they will have to rent space on VZ towers and add their own stuff. Not going to happen me thinks. Sprint is going to in large cities and VZ is going to be countywide.

VZ has said that they are keeping 3g CDMA up for many years yet. That could change if LTE really take off but I see CDMA being around for 8 to 10 years.

Notice no one is talking about the "evil empire" will be doing lol.

WiMax and LTE are supposedly interchangeable.

As in it's mainly software that differentiates them. Maybe slight hardware changes.

Not sure if that's on towers, phones or both... or if it'll actually be able to happen (since LTE isn't even finalized as a spec yet... AND since WiMax 2 is in the works as well)

Sprint/Clear has also stated that they *MIGHT* switch to LTE if the market desires *BUT* they didn't want to wait for an unfinished, unproven specification to possibly make it to market when they have a working spec *NOW*.

I see CDMA staying alive for awhile as well. It'll be good to see all the major carriers on LTE tho when/if that happens.

Here's the deal guys. The LTE that Verizon and AT&T are using is FD-LTE. It is NOT interchangeable with WiMax. There is another version of LTE called TD-LTE that Sprint/Clearwire are considering switching to. The reason they are considering the switch is because hardware manufacturers may not want see WiMax as viable with the other big cell carriers using LTE and decide to stop manufacturing parts for WiMax. Even though TD-LTE & FD-LTE are both LTE, they are also NOT compatible.

I'm no Telecomm Engineer but if I hear what you are saying correctly, then it would effectively translate to Sprint 4G/LTE devices not being able to Roam on Verizon's upcoming 4G/LTE? Is this accurate statement? If not...

Yes. Sprint phones will NOT be able to roam on verizon's network.

In fact, even if BOTH companies were using the SAME technology, verizon wouldn't allow sprint phones to roam off of the new 4g, unless there is a clause in CURRENT roaming agreements. Verizon's not going to sign new ones with sprint for 4g roaming.

It won't be 12 months. it will be 4+ years until Verizon considers it. Verizon's not going to give their data roaming to another company that they compete with without getting something in return, and sprint has nothing to offer.
