HTC Eris poor charge life.

I've taken tons of HTC's for return over the last month (especially with the bogo on them) for poor battery life.

I talked to tech support and they pulled the, "the battery should be charged for 10 good hours prior to use." In the 4 years that I have been with the company I have never heard this stuff for lithium ion, (only nickle plated).

Is anyone else having these issue's, (and if so) what advice or knowledge can be shared?

Also, any validity to the claims made by the tech rep? I know those guys tend to have a mind of their own sometimes.

what phones are the people upgrading from? For me, a lot of the people I sold Eris' to were first time touchscreen/smartphone users, so they were used to their battery lasting 3-5 days, and so when they had to charge the eris every night, they thought there was something wrong with the battery.

Do the phones have a task killer installed? Do they turn off wifi and bluetooth when not using it? what is their screen brightness set to?

These things all change the battery life drastically and not things that people new to android/smartphones would think about.

that being said, The eris battery is not close to what I can get on my Droid it seems.

I remembered seeing this in one of the reviews for the Eris:
TIP - If constant sync of gmail is not top priority, use mail client instead and have device check for email every 4,2, or 1 hours, turn of Gmail sync. Battery life significantly improved. Gmail sync uses a lot of battery power.

My sync doesn't use that much energy at all. I only catch it syncing when I update contacts, add stuff to the calendar, etc. The email itself is Push.
