Data plan screw up?

Hey guys... I was doing some research as I was planning on switching over to Verizon in the net couple of months and I chose what appears to be a solid phone in the Motorola W766. I realize that a data plan is now required but the only options given was either a $29.99 unlimited or a $9.99 25mb... Those numbers sound like a smart phone plan rather than a simple 3G phone. Online screw up or legit?

Welcome to verizon! Unfortunately it's legit! Verizon now charges 29.99 for unlimited dumbphone data!

It's right. Data plans were forced because people kept calling about about data charges when its the customers fault, so Verizon just made data plans for most 3G phones now. They are the same price at Smartphone data plans. You may as well go ahead and get a smartphone unless you just want the 9.99 data plan which is fine for some people.

Wow, that might just be a deal crusher... All I need data is for checking mycast weather and occasionally google maps. Lol, I don't even know if 25MB is enough.

If you'll be using those somewhat regularly, then 25MB should be adequate. You'll really only run into issues if you checked Facebook or something along those lines a lot. In your case, it actually makes sense to have some sort of data package.

i have a bb bold 9700 and I am 3/4 of the way through my billing cycle and have only used 13.4 mb. i would gladly pay $10 a month if i had the option. I heavily use my fb app as well as espn.com to track sports scores. 25mb should be plenty for almost any non smart phone usage.

Yep. The $9.99 25MB ensures that those customers who were "accidentally" browsing the Mobile Web have enough MB to cover it.

I'm seething with sarcasm, as of late. It's been tough to keep my mostly-neutral stance since the data requirement went into effect.

it's enough for me. i tried the connect plan when i first got my enV touch back in august, but realized right away that i hated browsing the web on it. so i opted for the 25mb since i only use the web for checking email, facebook, googling, mapquest/google directions, maybe 2-3 youtube videos, and news...with this i average about 15-20 megs. i can't justify having nothing between 9.99 and 29.99 though. it's also too bad that they did away with the connect plan (that was the best value, imo).

I were to block the web, than I am assuming a data plan isn't required.
