It's the rumor that won't die. After sitting on the sidelines while the iPhone drove up subscriber count and average revenue per user for AT&T over the past three years, Verizon may be getting a CDMA version of Apple's successful smartphone this summer. That is, as long as Apple and Verizon can agree on pricing.
Apple has launched the iPhone on multiple carriers in many parts of the world, and has noted success in countries where it is available from more than one carrier. However, when the iPhone first launched, Apple had to make a long-term exclusivity deal with AT&T to get the phone to market. The iPhone win, while huge for Qualcomm, doesn't involve its Snapdragon platform, but a 3G wireless technology chip for EV-DO, says Kumar.
So are we talkn' an LTE device or a regular VZW EVDO and 1xRTT iPhone? 🤨
And if VZW does get a 'regular' iPhone then the choice would be do you want an iPhone with more 3G coverage or faster (ATT) 3G coverage?
A great marketing move I think would be if Verizon got the IPHONE but introduced it as the first 4G available for sale in the U.S.
Its a cdma radio people, no big deal to put one in an iphone. I don't see the point in waiting till LTE is more expansive.

A CDMA (1xEV) iPhone would be sustainable for many years. And like the iPhone/iPhone3G/iPhone3Gs series, technology upgrades (through a new model) could be only a year apart.
And I think VZW has discovered what ATT did, in that there’s money to be made in data. Maybe where the news of all VZW phones requiring some sort of data plan comes from.
So time will tell, but we can hope.
