Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimated there's a "70 percent" chance that Apple will launch a new iPhone with Verizon by the middle of this year.

Which is exactly what verizon needs. When verizon gets the best phone in the world, the IPHONE than it will be the biggest powerhouse in the wireless industry!

The iPhone isn't the "best phone in the world" ... but, it certainly is one of the most popular ones (which is really what counts when it comes to $$$).

There are tons of phones that are much better, so yea... "best" is not the correct word to use.

Agreed. The droids that are out in Verizon's network are the best...Actually phones do totally different things depending on what you need it for

They might not need it but they want it really really bad, the Droid and these other knockoffs although advanced are not what the majority demand! They want the IPHONE!

The iphone is intentionally holding back the device to make more money off of apps.

Im down worrying about the iphone. The nexus one does everything the iphone can do and more.

I know verizon wants the iphone, but I will prolly be passing.

True, there is a demand for the Iphone, but droids, and now the Nexus do what the iphone does and more. If you notice AT&T is bracing itself for the lose of the Iphone by getting on board with Google phones by Dell. When Verizon gets the iphone, they will have the Nexus by then and Moto droids with the updated software, so it won't really matter.

See.. I disagree.. I am a HUGE mac fan (on a PC now for money/work reasons) but I couldn't have an iphone and be as happy with it as I am on my Droid, coverage everything aside.

The IPHONE will never be outpopularized and their apps are far greater and growin by the day than that of the droid. google has their work cut out for them, they're not the marketing geniuses like Apple so time will tell on that one.

Step away from the Kool Aid for a second and look what apple is doing...

--Offering and underpowered OS (mainly so it will work on all 3 models).

--Holding back back basic features to push their own services

--No multitasking

--Should be using Gorilla Glass like the Droid, way stronger and resists cracking/breaking

--Pretty much zero customization

I mean, I'm typing this reply on a macbook pro, so I am def a mac fan. But the way they treat iphone users is really getting ridiculous. Why have a $600 phone, that acts as good as a phone half the price.

The iphone will sell like hotcakes on vzw, but hopefully some increased competition forces them to get their act together. And hopefully some of these fanboys will stop fo...

exactly.. apple is better than what they are doing with the iphone. Blindly spouting their praises hurts the product you seem to love os much.

I understand your arguments:

But the simplicity of the IPHONE is the genius behind it, any noob off the street can pick it up and be familiar with it by the end of the lunch hour. That's Brilliance at its very best! You can over complicated a product. ...most people don't care about the customization, or the glass the droid is made out of, etc...plus you guys are acting like Apple is resting on its laurels and are done reinventing the wheel. Just wait I'm sure we will be blown away with what Apple has in store for us!

An "underpowered" OS in what regard? It's a derivative of Mac OS.

It certainly *does* multitask, Apple has seen fit only to permit it to do so on its own apps. Which, I don't agree with. If it really is an energy budget, give the user the choice.

The glass issue is a non-starter considering the phone design is three years. I'm sure they'll come up with better materials, but you raise a very salient issue.

As far as customization, what is there to do? Change the background? Big deal. I know that for some people, being able to "express themselves" with their phone is important, I don't see that as really a bonus to any other smart phone.

I'm certain that the iPhone will make Verizon's network engineers crap bricks for months...

They act like at&t would no longer be able to sell the iPhone. Thats just silly. Hopefully apple does a better job with their CDMA radios than they did with their GSM/WCDMA radios.
