i am sure you have notice the verizon and att commercials. i think it is funny how att cant even put out a good commercial. let give a fat guy postcard to throw on a map so it will cover the united states so people will think we work every where. verizon has all the best ones that are funny the Santa work shop my fav. one is the football game where i blocks tv. att can only get a fat out of work actor. now i know this will be swamped with hate mail from att people and i have a theory on that also. you guys never have customers in you store. you are so bored that this is the best thing you have to do. have funny being and always staying number 2.

bring on the BS hate mail. we all know it lies like your commercials

Wow- your knowledge of your biggest competitor is only matched by the size of your pea head.

oh - and the reason for the commercials in the first place is that the AT&T stores are so slow they had time crush you in Q3 with net adds. They are also slow enough to provide much better customer service as evident by the record low churn that also beat Verizon in Q3.

try again sparky.

Yes it is true that Verizon is ranked #1. To me, it's relative because Verizon's scored a 75. A 75 is not great score and considered a C. Yes Verizon scored higher than At&t. At&t scored in the sixties which is a D.

I am an At&t customer but does Verizon commercials are great.

Around my area, VZW corporate stores are always busy with people. It mainly involves new activations & upgrades, people paying their bills (that's usually why I'm at the store), and repair issues with their phones. I don't know the reason my local AT&T stores aren't as busy. They're located in busy shopping centers. The VZW store in Merrillville Indiana is not located in the best shopping center, as the store is small & not a big parking lot. It however is one of the businest stores around me. Portage & Valparaiso Indiana stores are newer stores, and traffic isn't as busy at those stores, but I believe they will eventually.

Many AT&T stores don't do troubleshooting and repairs. Locally, no AT&T stores do it. Neither do Sprint or T-Mobile stores. If you have a problem, you call their customer care or tech support lines. There's no one to go to when you have a problem. Verizon, on the other hand, is packed full of people with issues. Granted, a lot of those issues would be easily handled without assistance (like activating a phone that was sent to you).

In our part of the market, Verizon is pushing us to become more like the AT&T/others experience. We don't do phonebook transfers in the stores any more. We don't have most of the warranty replacements, and have to ship them to you. We no longer have the "three swap-outs" program as most people knew it....

The reason At&t doesn't have any customers in the store is because they are enjoying there great service and they don't have any problems with there phone. Like the other person stated Verizon always has customers because they either have a problenm with their service, or returning a phone because it crapped out on em. And the At&t map commerical is not false, they may not have 3g everywhere but they still do get service with edge. And if you look At&t's quartly results are better than Verizon. How about posting something that is useful or true. 🙂

Ok. You want something true? Well here it goes. The reason why AT&T customers are never in the store is because they are too LAZY! I have to dea...

Actually, Cingular bought the old AT&T Wireless and took the number one slot. Then Cingular's bigger parent, SBC, bought the old AT&T Corp and became the new AT&T. Then the new AT&T bought BellSouth and took full ownership of Cingular. Cingular was then rebranded as AT&T and dropped to second place after Verizon Wireless acquired Alltel.

Just helping you to better know you're wireless history. I've been a cellular junkie since 2003 and I have seen a lot of changes, hell, we all have.

Personally, I wish the Cingular branding would not have been discontinued. The brand was perceived to be a solid one, much preferable to AT&T which is seen as an archaic monopoly that lacks innovation. The Cingular brand was new, fun, and innovative in the public's eye.

Verizon, meanwhile, has done a phenomenal job at maintaining it's positive image as a brand. Right from its inception ten years ago, it has maintained a positive public perception.

If you are a wireless junkie then you know that just as Verizon was formed from smaller companies so was the original Cingular (from Bell South Mobility, SBC, Pac Bell Ameritech etc...) What is it with you people and the gang like affinity for your wireless providers? None of them gives a *Bleep* about us. They just want our money.

Oh I knew that Cingular was formed out of SBC Wireless, BellSouth Mobility, Ameritech Cellular, Pac Bell Mobility, SNET Mobility, and so on. I was just saying that the Cingular BRAND was thought of as fresh, innovative, etc. whilst AT&T's brand is thought of as old, archaic, etc.

And of course they all want our money. They are corporations, and corporations a...

So I watched a few Android Apps & Games vids on YouTube today, among the vids I watched was a tutorial of PDAnet. I thought it was kind of strange that the USB drivers weren't included in the app, but that you have to download the drivers from the www.junefabrics.com website.

So theres no app that lets you use the built-in wifi as a wifi router on Android?

Yes there is, but (at least currnetly) you need root access to your phone.

I just rooted my phone tonight.. one of the reasons was for the tether (and for the overclocking)

Interesting! So what was the whole rooting experience like? Did rooting it cause you to lose any apps you have loaded over the course that you've owned your Droid?

How did you learn to root it? Did someone in the Android Central forums teach you how?

The things you can do with Android are amazing!

I didn't lose any information. The hardest part was finding the file for the initial root. Had to merge two zip files using command line code. Then you put it on your SD card and reboot the phone in recovery mode. Tell it to update from update.zip (the file) and when it boots up, you are in Root.

Installing a custom rom (what gave me overclocking and tether) was a bit more involved but it's basically like patching a computer. Once you get the process, it's cake.

I started by doing android central forums, but ended up finding: rootyourdroid.info, which I really like.

I also found out that my phone apparently has an FM radio... can't wait for someone to figure out how to use it.

WoW, your pretty damn savvy with your Droid!

I've been thinking a lot about my getting an Android smartphone plans. The past year plus I have been putting a LOT of pressure on myself to completly pay off my credit card and rid myself of debt, and give myself a fresh start in life. My tax refund was $1,029, and my Nokia N95 is 2yrs old, and it's slow, and I want to take advantage of all the advances of the past 2yrs. Snapdragon processor, 3.7in AMOLED displays and so on.

But this is a hard decision, in all likeliness an Android smartphone will cost me, what like $220 w/tax? I've already got a nice brown leather cell phone case I got from Pocket Solutions that I've had for almost 2yrs, and I already have a 16gb microsd card, so I really ...

I'll try my best to hold off on a new Android smartphone. I guess during the time it takes to pay off my credit card (11 more months) Android will only continue to evolve and get better, and the Android Market will continue to evolve and get more robust.

Besides, once my credit card is paid off it would only take me 2 paychecks to save up for an Android smartphone.

He is talking about partitioning the SD card so you can save apps on it. I haven't done that. you do need to know some command codes, but they go step by step for you if you know where to look

Having the option to choose between saving an app on the phones internal memory or memory card SHOULD be built in to Android. I can't get over that Android is at version 2.1 and the memory card option still isn't there.

that's actually how Verizon came to be, it was a merger of GTE and Bell Atlantic with some other smaller providers and investment dollars by Vodafone among others. Buying other companies to increase market share is an acceptable business practice, it's done in every industry and is usually a very efficient way to add customers. It is usually easier to keep customers than it is to add new customers because most consumers do not like change. So buying your competition is an easy way to add customers. Unless you do what Sprint did and buy a completely incompatible network and end up costing yourself a ton of money to maintain both networks.
