Blackberry Tour Replacement

WHATEVERWORKS

Dec 2, 2009, 3:10 PM
I am on my 3rd blackberry tour and having problems.

I know if I have 3 replacements on a phone, the 4th one I can opt to change to a different phone.

How does this work?

Does anyone know what the phone options would be?

Thanks!!

It doesn't. You are not entitled to go to a different model. If you meet certain guidelines you would be able to get a NEW Tour rather than a CLNR (refurbished).

It has to be a certain number of replacements within a certain number of days. And I believe it's called the "Multi-FRU" program. However, the "new phone" that they give you must be a phone that has been "designated" to replace the phone that you have. In the case of the Tour, I can't imagine what that would be other than a Tour since there has been no replacement phone. Also, you must forfeit your "new every 2", and you must purchase any accessories that might be required for the new phone if the ones you currently have don't work with it.

Go Talk to a manager and be firm in your stance if you want to get into another device. Be respectful, but again, be firm.

I have had this issue and most managers will not want to do it initially, but if you explain your case there is a lot they can do to put you in a new device.

It took six tries on the Samsung Sway and screaming @ the manager to get what I wanted. Each Sway had problems with screen and restarting when receiving picture message. Biggest issue is if you listened to music (not phone calls) via Bluetooth it would cut out constantly...

I know for a fact you swap it out. I got my wifes pink curve swapped out for a storm2, without a contract extension. Like Chris said, be firm & controlled.

There is no policy that "entitles" a customer to be switched to a different model. That is not to say that one cannot find a store manager with no backbone who will bend. A manager can aways make a Manager's Exception for pretty much any reason he likes. Back in the day, I had a manager who gave phones to women who were attractive. *Shrug*

I agree.

And going from a Curve (which is an entry level blackberry) to a storm 2 does not sound like being cool, calm, collected and "firm". Sounds like he threw a temper tantrum in the store til he got what he wanted. He only got it for the following reasons:

1.) Manager on duty was worried he was teething and would dirty up the displays with the drool.

2.) Manager in question mistook him for Steven Segal and gladly replaced the Pink Curve for a storm 2 lest he be subjected to a body cavity search by someone who is now reduced to acting in a reality tv show. Yeah, I would want a body cavity search from someone who starred in a movie called 'Marked for Death.' I don't think so.

3.) Maybe, just maybe, he thinks being firm involve...

Well, you guys are both incorrect on all 3 counts. I never set foot in a store, made the transaction through over the phone. Not once did I raise my voice, or threaten to switch carriers. My wife had 2 bad FRU's in less than a week. First one didn't hold a charge & the second one didn't power up at all. So I asked what they could do for me, being a 10yr+ subscriber. They offered me every phone under the sun except the Droid & Eris. So I asked the CS for the Storm2, she said she'd ask her supervisor. I figured the worst thing he could say was no. But to my surprise, they sent me one. Never once did I do any of those points mentioned above. Actually, they apologized to me for the inconvenience.

If you never set foot in a store then it was not a Multi Exchange. I never said you raised your voice. If a CS or Tech Supervisor made a manager's exception for you then you should be pleased. The fact remains that the exchange was not under any Verizon policy. Some supervisors will do ANYTHING to get off the phone with customers. It is not fair to set expectations here on a forum that what worked for you is going to work for the original poster because he may get his feelings hurt.
