VZW & MOTO disappointed with DRIOD
The closely-watched debut of Motorola's flagship Google (GOOG Quote) Android phone is not yet three weeks along and already the $200 introductory price has been cut 25% and in some places 40%.
The discounts certainly fit the season Black Friday deals. But the speed of the move and the need to sweeten the price suggests that Verizon and Motorola aren't happy with the pace of Droid sales.
Early analyst tallies estimated that Motorola sold between 200,000 and 400,000 Droids in the first few days. Those numbers are uncomfortably similar to the less-than-dazzling start of Palm (PALM Quote) Pre sales this summer.

The price cuts are to move more units, this is true, but also because Christmas is the time of year that a lot of people upgrade (especially the coveted customers who want high tech but don't pay the bills, aka kids/college students) so making the up front cost cheaper makes it more attractive to parents.
Android is cool, voice search (for anything) is cool, Internet was wicked fast.
But that voice quality and physical keyboard, I couldn't live with nor wait for the software update. ðŸ¤
I mean REALLY! That keyboard was awful. And their commercial slogan (Can you hear me now) shouldn't have to actually be said. 😲
But I use my phone at work in noisy environments and it just couldn't cut it. I have noticed Moto's Crystaltalk works better with GSM handsets.
