Early upgrade possible?

I am eligible to upgrade in late Nov when I reach the 1-yr mark on my 2yr contract. However, since I will be taking a long road trip in mid-Nov, I was hoping to get the Droid so I can use it on the trip. I asked a VZW rep whether I could get an early upgrade & was shot down (politely). I asked if a supervisor could force the early upgrade & was told that they couldn't.

Is that accurate? I was under the impression that VZW supervisors could pretty much override the system at will. I was hoping someone here could tell me whether it was possible to get the early upgrade (meaning I just need to be more persistent) or whether it's a lost cause. Thanks.

If it were able to early upgrade at-will we'd do it for anything that creates good commissions, especially if you're going from a normal phone to a droid. In most cases, an early upgrade doesn't count as a valid commissionable contract renewal anyway, so there's little to no incentive to do exceptions. Plus, there's the tracking that the company does... do them enough, and you could see trouble.

There are some aspects to early upgrades I should mention.

1) Customer service has early upgrade capabilities that stores do not. Often, they approve an early upgrade and send the customer to the store, not realizing the store can't do an upgrade previously approved by customer care UNLESS it happens to coincide with the early upgrade author...

And there you have the problem with the current state of wireless.

Customer wants an upgrade early because they feel entitled to it. Reps won't do it because there's nothing in it for them. ๐Ÿคจ

That's why I think T-Mobile might be on the right track. Give people the option of going no contract for less money every month...no subsidies. If you want the same old subsidies and "loyalty" rewards, pay more for your service.

One day I think this will be the norm at all carriers.

Thanks for all the info! That's very helpful to know. I guess I'll try again and hope for a small miracle.

Your only hope is manager's exception. A manager can break the rules but they will have to answer for it. It sounds like you signed a two year contract and will be eligible for an Annual upgrade after one year in the phone. You should just wait for your one year anniversary and upgrade when you are eligible.

Agreed. It's highly unlikely you'll get an early upgrade on an already early upgrade! lol

OK now I'm confused. i want that damn droid. called 611 and got customer service rep. i said i was bitting the bullet and paying full price for droid. i asked her how much that would be. she looked up my account and noted i got my new every two last February, THEN she said what she could do was have me resign with a one year contract..thereby getting fifty off full retail price.

she used my blackberry as an analogy..she said it's retail Price wa 400 or something..the two year price would be about three hundred...she said that if i then signed again when i get the droid for a one year...i would get a fifty off. she told me ballpark {since at that time she did not have the pricing in front of her} i would be looking at about 2...

Sounds like you aren't even eligible for annual until February so she was giving you the corporate lost/stolen/damaged discount of 50 off retail.
