if i buy a prepaid verizon phone from walmart can i use it on my regular service? i just dont have alot of $$ right now
...
Yeah, but don't take it into a Verizon Corp store. Do *228 option 3 or online.
...
just dial *228 then option 3?
...
Yeah. You will then enter your phone number and then your account holders last 4 Social. You can also do it online.
...
have you had experience with this?
...
Yes. Im a Verizon Wireless CSR.
...
sweet...now if that doesnt work can i call customer care?
...
I've been told by some verizon reps that they caught onto this and have stopped it. Don't know if that is true. I actually would like to do the same thing. I'd like to buy a prepaid phone from target (only $15) to replace my wife's prepaid phone that is extremely old. I had full intention of doing but was told it would not work. Anyone positive it will based on recent experience?
...
You can still do it. Its faster online.
...
im still not able to do it.
...
Quick follow-up: Just bought a $15 prepaid verizon phone at Target and transfered it to my regular phone and it completely worked. Did it online and had no problems...
...
1, you must be on the main lines account (Account Holder).
2, on the new phone, dial *228 option 1 after you do the ESN change online.
...
sometimes those prepaid phones have to be activated on a prepaid line, then removed from the line, THEN they can be activated on a post pay line. it's kind of a tricky thing.
...
Last year etc, carriers were moving to stop the practice of using prepaid phones on postpaid accounts, but now it seems they have eased up (particularly Verizon and AT&T). I guess with the recession in full swing, the companies figure it's better to keep their customers happy and let them get a prepaid handset for their post paid account rather than trying to stop them and potentially lose their business.
...
yeah I remember all the walmart prepais where locked to prepaid only, but I thought those where still locked down
...
Nope. It will show up on your account as, lets say, Motorola W755pp. pp=prepaid but Verizon doesn't care anymore.
...
I don't know about your store, but I still can't activate them on contract until they've been active on prepay for 6+ months. It's all about commission structure and Walmart's special agreement with VZW.
...
you can get a smooth at walmart for $20 and sell it on ebay for 45-50....I wonder who has thought of that one yet
...
Nobody. Because nobody would go on eBay looking for a smooth, that's why. 🤣
...
tell that to all the people who are buying them
...
buy it. activate it. crank call all your buddies till your mins run out. then call and cancel your service. then activate it on your post paid account. worked for me.
...
Actually if it's activated on to prepaid first then it will be locked to prepaid for at least 6 months. The key is to buy the prepaid phone, then instantly activate it on a contract plan. That will work. Won't work if the phone was first on a prepaid plan though.

I beg to differ. I bought a Smooth on prepaid (plastic bubble pack and all), used the minutes, then replaced my regular handset with it online...all withing 2 weeks from the date of purchase.
