Any VZW Corp. Empolyees here?

I have an interview for an ASM position. I was wondering what ASMs typically make per year. They did tell me it was a 75%/25% (salary/comm) blend.

They told me what the salary "starts" at. However they did say it would go up with expierence. I have 7 total years in the wireless business (3 of which I owned a chain of indirects)... So anyone have any clue what they might start me out at?

Anyone have any input as a current VZW employee on anything else?

Do you get free minutes on say a family plan or anything like that?

Thanks!

I wish I could give you a better idea on pay scale. It depends heavily on experience, local cost of living, and more - so I'd say you're doing pretty good with 7 years behind you.

If you're hired, they'll inform you of the pay scale before you make a final commitment.

You'll get a phone provided for you. In my area, it's unlimited anything except maybe international calls. You don't get to pick whatever phone you want, however.

As an employee you'll get half off the brochure rates on your own account. Nothing free there, sorry. You get the same as a customer but for half the price on most things. You'll pay for most phones, but only have one year contracts.

Good luck!

They said "We were really impressed with you in the 1st round of interviews". Now I have a confrence call with the DM and a few other people. The manager said to watch out for his aggressive nature. I told him I figured this was going to be the "see if we can break him" part of the interviews. He laughed and said I would be fine.....

I guess we'll see on Thursday morning.

The DM wants someone who's ready to motivate performance. There's a company-wide push to create a strong coaching environment. Our goal is sales, and our road to success depends on sales reps and customer service reps building more value for the company. A manager is expected to guide the reps through a system of observation and coaching. The big pushes are in data and building value with the existing customer base.

Speak to those things and you'll be in better shape.

If only that was the way VZW sales stores were run instead of just buzz words that corporate throws around.

Yeah, some stores are better than others. But RIGHT NOW corporate is pushing very hard on a new sales process. They have everyone and their mother going to training for it. Because of that, RIGHT NOW is a buzz word environment.

I've been through the training. I believe it has merit, and I'm the first person to criticize any of these "processes" we use. I've seen a dozen of them in my time with the company, and none of them worked. They were important for a few months - maybe a year - and then got lost in the noise of everyday business.

However, everything I've seen thus far has been implemented anywhere between the region and the store, usually the district. This one is company-wide.

Might as well ride the buzz word train r...

I agree with you, I am a customer and I have only ever dealt with people that know the very minimum about any phone and usually try and push you to either the most expensive phone or whatever phone corporate is telling them to push (usually a really crappy phone that is soon discontinued). No one ever seems to be able to answer questions that do not involve buying something at the VZW store, for instance if you buy a new phone that VZW doesn't have a case for no one seems to know of any stores in the area that sell any sort of phone cases.
Anyway good luck on the interview, don't look around the room when you are answering questions and always give a firm handshake. Also don't talk about your personal life unless a direct question is asked,...

I'm sorry your experience has been sub-par.

I can assure you that Verizon doesn't force us to push any particular phone. When Verizon does a BOGO Blackberry or buy any phone get three phones free kind of deal, obviously Verizon wants to sell those models, and you can safely assume we're going to lead with them. But interestingly enough, I can have a buy anything get three free Motorola phones special running while LGs are at their peak prices, and still sell more LGs. We know better than to direct a customer in any direction, other than the closing part of the sale, of course.

In fact, a visit to the store I work in might shock you (I know it would piss off corporate) to learn that we tell customers which phones are junk and shoul...

well let me know if you ever decide to work in the North Dallas part of Texas. I always go to corporate stores, I've had a guy tell me the phone I bought was the top seller and found out later that it was only for sale for 2 weeks and had something like a 70% return rate I returned mine 4 times in 10 weeks before I had to give the manager a choice of letting me upgrade early or I would go to a different carrier, this was several years ago when I lived in California but I haven't seen much change in customer service. As far as accessories people that work in an area for any amount of time generally have an idea of what stores in a couple mile radius sell items that relate to what they sell, probably not the exact inventory but they should be ...

like I said it was years ago, it was a Samsung bar phone but with a flip that covered the numbers I think it was the SCH-N300. Sprint had a similar phone and I knew a guy that had it, he couldn't stay on a call for more than a couple of minutes before the phone got too hot to hold. Mine would either lock and never unlock or you couldn't lock it, you could sit outside under clear skies and watch the meter go from full signal to none and drop a call then back to full in a few minutes. It turned itself off once and never turned back on, various random issues horrible phone. I missed probably 40% of all incoming calls but I always got the missed call notice and viocemail notice.

Wow, phone quality has changed maybe 15 times since then. I have one of those models in my box of old phones.

Back in the day, phone quality was either hit or miss. These days, quality differences are more subtle.

Even I've been subject to believing in a phone only to find it a dud later on, and it would have been from about that time frame (five years ago or so). It's much easier to predict these things now.

My original face to face interview went quite well.... the secondary interview with the DM of sales lasted a tad over a hour.

It went very good.... He didn't ask me those stupid "give me a situation were you did this" questions. The questions were more directly related to business.

He asked a few questions that would trip up the novice interviewee (is that even a word?) But he even commented I did good...

An hour later I was offered the job.

Thanks Everyone!

Congrats! PM me if you get the chance, I'd like to keep in touch once you get through training.

I guess you'll have to get rid of your T-Mo phone now? Or at least hide it. 😉

What kind of "novice" questions did the DM ask?
