Ok this is prally a stupid thread and im sure people have posted it before. But i was reading online that apples contract is almost up with att and that they are possibly looking at making a cdma version of it for verizon. Also that apple is hiring evdo and cdma technicians which is also why this rumor is sparked. Anyone have real info on this. Im just curious, I have the storm and would not switch for the iphone, just think this is an interesting rumor

Eventually Apple will buckle in to VZW. They need VZW more than VZW needs Apple.

Apple would be dumb to bring there product to verizons dirt ass CDMA Network. Its all a rumor and it probably will never happen. Steve Jobbs approached Verizon first to have the IPhone, what makes you think they will come to them in the first place?

Actually, they would have to be dumb not to bring their device to VZW. Even without the iPhone VZW put up great numbers in terms of adds for 2008, as well they kept their churn down. That basically says they don't NEED the iPhone to succeed (though, it wouldn't be bad to have it as long as it's on their terms).

Yea, Verizon doesn't need it too survive, but would be awesome to have it.

iPhone is whats keeping AT&T alive.

When Verizon gets iPhone, almost over 80% of iPhone users will switch to Verizon.

How do I know this? Go look at blogs and all.

People LOVE iPhone, and HATE AT&Ts network.

I can't stand hearing that people are leaving Verizon Wireless for ONE FREAKING PHONE. I really wish that Verizon Wireless would get a device like the Pre, as it looks to be iPhone-caliber in most respects. Amusingly, there are a lot of people who want the iPhone and have absolutely no reason why, aside from the fact that it's "cool" or something.

Sure, iPhone's cool, but it's also lacking a lot of very basic functionality right out of the box. Why people want it, I don't know. Why not *gasp* remain loyal to a company that's been good to you and just get an iPod Touch or something?

Regarding Verizon Wireless turning iPhone down, honestly, I believe that it had more to do with bone-headed hardware design (Why can't you just easily repla...

Another thing is that Verizon could not give ANY discounts from Apple products.

As in, NE2 wont work. Your 20% off your bill would be taken away, and no discounts on Apple Products (cases, chargers, ect.)

Not AT&T or Verizons choice, but Apples choice.

Also, AT&T makes almost NOTHING off of the iPhone.

This is why Verizon did not want it.

Coming from someone who has had both Verizon and now At&T, I love at&t's network, i got reception most places verizon doesnt. And as far as AT&T not making any money off the IPhone, are you joking with me, or are you just that dumb. Just thing about it for a second, AT&T gets all that revenue from people switching over and there new rate pla...

Haha just as you said think about what you say... Alltel was doing very well. the people who sold Alltel made a HUGE profit in the short time they owned Alltel. It was a smart business move on both ends.

You are right that the iphone is a cash cow for att making them plenty of money and turning up the gross profit per contract. att is not dieing by any means, verizon just temporarily pulled ahead until att or anotehr company makes another smart business move to become the new top dog

Then you must not know AT&T as well as I do.
I had AT&T Wireless, then Cingular, now AT&T.
I switch to Verizon over a year ago. Tested both.
Verizon works in way more areas then AT&T.
Mountains, sticks, under ground, Air Planes.
AT&T.. NO SERVICE.
Your the dumb one for thinking AT&T has the best network, because if you have read the ratings, awards, and news, I see at&t with bad call quality, Network outages all the time, horrible 3G coverage, and bad customer support.

Verizon turned down the IPHONE originally due to all of the demands that Apple wanted. Apple wanted all of the money from the handset price to go to them, the phones could only be serviced by Apple. Verizon was not willing to give Apple the entire cost of the handset, like AT&T, also Verizon services all of their phone in their stores and Apple did not want this.......nothing to do with the UI. The UI on smartphones, verizon has no control of that..

But it's true. MILLIONS have left big Red for big Blue just to get a bite out of an Apple. VZW has only been able to hold subscriber ground by migrating hordes and hordes of former T-mo and Nextel customers. It's been enough to compensate for the iPhans up to this point, but in the absence of iPhone, VZW would be doing massively better then AT&T by any reasonable accounting.

The moment a CDMA or LTE iPhone hits the street compatible with VZW, you're going to see a huge shift back to Verizon. I just don't expect to see anything like that happening in the next 24 months.

The sad thing about it is that, again, most people just think that the phone's cool, and they really don't know why they want it, otherwise. And yes, Verizon Wireless would definitely be churning less customers if it had the iPhone. Its churn numbers are solid and all, but just think of how low they'd actually be with the iPhone.

I don't understand the draw to iPhone. Considering how limited 3G coverage is on AT&T's network, I fail to see how an iPod Touch wouldn't fit most people's needs.

I use the touch because it is a great multimedia device. But around here, where there is no ATT 3g, I really don't know why I see so many people with the device.

"Correction 11:56 a.m. PST: We messed up. The 9 to 5 Mac blog we cited below is in fact from September 2008, so it turns out this is an old rumor. Because it showed up in our RSS feed Saturday, we, like a number of other publications, took it as a recent post and went from there. Apologies for the confusion."
