My fiances mom is eligible for an upgrade as do I and both her and I want to get a BB Storm. I was wondering if she goes in for an upgrade to purchase this phone could I get the free one and upgrade my current phone?

You have to be on the same account. You don't necessarily have to go in at the same time, as long as it's within 30 days. If you're not in the same part of the country, you will want to have a copy of the receipt handy, cause it needs to be referenced.

It is not on the same account. I have my account and she has hers. Could I still get the promotion?

Probably not. We use an internal rule book we know as Methods and Procedures (even though we don't call it that any more), and the BOGO section specifically limits BOGOs to the same account (or at least the same account owner).

This doesn't mean it can't happen. The people at the store are supposed to say no. If they say yes and do it, good news for you. They put themselves at risk of failing an audit (a big deal), but if they did it, you're not liable for their mistake.

I HAVE seen people merge accounts temporarily to avoid this, but it's usually not worth the prorations.

What do you mean that people merge their accounts. This would be a hassle for who, you or I?

For you. One person would need to assume liability for both lines (have them put into their name) This means going through a credit check, and having a 1 year contract signed for both phones (this does not change upgrade dates).

After that is done, you need to do a new assumption of liability to have all the phones put back with their respective owners. It is a headache for everyone involved, but especially for you and your soon to be mother in law.

Heck, if they're both eligible, I'd do it on 2 different accounts, just reference the different tickets on the 2 different sales...

Maybe you could do that, I know as an indirect if we did that we would not get anything for the second phone sale.

That's why I said both would have to be eligible...look, we get a 2 renews, 2 data pkgs...it's a win-win.

Depending on how your commission structure is set up. The way ours currently is, we'll lose money on the second sale, even with the data package unless they are under the same account holder.
