pda phones prior to data pla requirements
It was a good device, as far as WinMo devices go. It should have been Windows Mobile 6.1, but it wasn't. I couldn't stand the touch-only keyboard (I realize this is the appeal to many people, but I didn't ask for the phone initially, it was assigned to me, and now I know that I need to request only phones with buttons). It didn't work FOR ME, though it works well for many people.
I'd say if you want something small, easy to tote around, functional, and you're trying to stay away from monthly data charges (and chance high arm-leg rates if you accidentally use it), this is a good phone for that.

On the few devices left where you can chose to add the $29.99 plan to cover Internet and e-mail, if you don't add the plan you're put on pay-per-kb rates that equate to a little over $15/mb. If you accidentally get on the Internet (hitting Internet Explorer, for instance), you get charged that arm and a leg rate.
If you block the data with a feature called "BLOCK NATIONAL ACCESS" you WILL avoid the possible data charges, but cripple your phone's capabilities.
As for the keyboard, I never bother to see if there's anything else available, so I'm of little help there.
The XV6900 without a data pack might as well be an LG Dare. The only advantage you would have over the Dare is being able to install 3rd party apps.
