Storm a POS?

Ouch -- according to this review in the New York Times at least the first Storm to come out is an extremely buggy phone and a POS. Why would RIM (and VZW) let a phone out on the market with so many flaws? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/27/technology/ personaltech/27pogue.html?bl&ex=1227934800&en =e69773c4efd24c5c&ei=5087%0A

Was the rush to put something on the market before Black Friday to compete with the iPhone the only consideration rather than quality?

Guess I'll being going with Omnia instead. Hopefully the phone was tested before it was put on the market.

Sorry for some reason the link is not working ... go to news.google.com and search for the title of the NYT article "storm is a dud".

I agree with you, somewhat. Did the Iphone come out without any bugs? In RIM's defense, their first attempt is on par with the Iphone 2G. I have the Storm myself as well. It has its shortcomings, true. But a POS, false. There is ALWAYS a learning curve to a new phone. I highly doubt first adopters of the Iphone picked it up and had no complaints. Now... Would I consider the Omnia? Probably not. Although the specs on that thing are extremely impressive. I'm not a fan of Windows mobile. Funny thing is, I think the Storms OS being buggy, is just like Windows is, but all the time. Just my opinion though. I know a lot of you out there swear by it. So when the software updates for the Storm come to fix the lag, how many complaints will there be? ...

I have had a Storm since release day and I don’t have any of those above mentioned problems to be fixed in the update. I don’t have hanging buttons, blown pixels. lag, etc.

The Storm will only get better, sites like BG and others are just blowing it out of proportion.

maybe you're not a heavy user, i had my friend's storm for about an hour, and i did notice the lag. it crashed once when i tried to open the browser. and it froze for about 30 seconds on a website. my friend plans on keeping it though.

There is a fix for that.

1) *228 option 1
2)turn off wireless radio (mobile network)
3)remove battery (hard reset)
4)wait 60 seconds
5) re-install and power on

the true fix is removing vznav off the device, it works AMAZINGLY better since removed off the store device and all my customers LOVE theirs, and I am getting sick of the blasted reviews, someone in apple paid these people I am certain, because the I phone had just as many issues on it.

To say this phone is a POS is crazy, this is the best BB on the market and the best touch screen phone out there to date.

I know I don't let any reviews bother me. I love this phone and I'm glad I bought it.

I dont know. its def not a POS but the software is a bit buggy.

Word on the streets is if you delete VZ nav from the device it works flawlessly and fast.

I would of waited for the new software before launching this, no doubt. this is one of the few blunders I have seen VZW make over the years.

I'm not in denial about my storm. It does lag & sometimes freezes. I did remove the VZNav on it. It does run a bit faster because of it as well. Hopefully the updates come ASAP.

It has a few bugs which will be fixed with an over the air software release, but nothing major. I am confident enough in this phone that I am getting it for my brother and father. Touch screens are not for everyone, and remember you have a 30 day wfg. If no wifi is a deal breaker for you then you must be an AT&T customer and used to their lack of 3g coverage.
