I just looked at the fine print under the $199 (after $50 rebate) on the Storm. This requires you to go with one of their new BlackBerry Nationwide Email plans. Since I am planning to get the $69 family plan with 2 of these storms and planned on 2 $29 blackberry plans, my total service cost would have been $140 before my corp discounts. ($115 after discount).
But by going with the Nationwide Email Plans, my cost will be $160 before my corp discount and $143 after discount.
Thats $20 more ($28 more after discounts). (note: I really dont need the few extra minutes).
So this is Verizon's way of getting us to cough up more coin. If thats the case I will forgo the $50 rebate.

wrong
you are not being forced to pay anymore, it is 30 bucks fot the data plan on nation wide, I have no idea what you are refering to .
...
hes referring to the fine print under where it says the storms price. it says it must be activated on nationwide email plans. but thats not correct you can add email and web for blackberry to any nationwide plan and you will be fine.
...
I agree that I should be able to add any email plan and add the $29 data plan. However, my guess is I wont get the $50 rebate if I dont choose from their new select Nationwide Email plans.
...
you will still get the rebate im 100% sure. You can be on a Nationwide plan (your 69.99 family share) and add the $29.99 data plan for email & Web.
you cannot however activate a Storm on an old America's choice plan. This is what the fine print id referring to.
You will have no prob getting the Storm for $199.99 after rebate.
...
You can't activate any Blackberry without at the least the $29.99 email/web plan. As for requireing the change from the Americas Choice to Nationwide the price and features are the same for the BB.
If the date plan is a deal breaker better to get Impulse phone.
...
Is that just access to the web for 29.99 then you pay for MB usage, or is that unlimited MB?
...
no, you can 100% add email and web for blackberry to your existing plan relax. you will be fine, thats just a poorly worded statement saying you need data.
...
I've talked about this very thing elsewhere, but because I talk way too much and way too often, I can't possibly find the original remark for you.
The terminology is stated on the Storm website as:
"...WITH NEW 2 YR ACTIVATION ON A NATIONWIDE EMAIL PLAN."
When Verizon intends a very specific type of price plan, it will include a price. For instance, the "Add a line for $9.99" advertisements always state "...WITH NEW 2 YR ACTIVATION ON A QUALIFYING NATIONWIDE FAMILY SHARE PLAN STARTING AT $69.99."
By omitting more specific terminology, they are simply stating that you will need to be on a Nationwide pricing plan. If you were an existing customer on and older America's Choice plan, you would be required to change to a newer Nationw...

Very good explanation. I however don't think an America's Choice customer would be required to change to Nationwide. When they advertise phones and list a plan like this they will of course always advertise the most current plan. Most of the time these things are targeted towards new activations as well, which would require a Nationwide plan. I'm almost positive if a customer came in to my store to upgrade to a storm I wouldn't have any issues leaving them on their America's choice plan and adding the $29.99 or $44.99 data plan. If they however wanted to go on one of the combined email plans they would have to go to Nationwide because it would be a plan change.

I'm giving a presentation (for VZW) on the Storm tomorrow. All the material I've referenced states the phone will need to be on a Nationwide plan.
...
What state is your presentation in?
...
Sorry, no dice. Too close to admitting who I am.
...
The most I will admit to is being in the West Area.
...
Okay, that's cool. Just thought you might be going to a local thing here tomorrow. Guess not. 🙂

There are certain phones you need nationwide for. The Dare is one of them, the storm will most likely be another.
Phones like this will pop up "Customer is not on an eligible price plan" if they need to be nationwide."
...
Yeah, I know there are. I've just never seen a PDA or Blackberry that required it. I really can't think of anything different on the storm that would require it either. Usually it's the "phones" that have full html browsing that require Nationwide.

Let me clear this up before it gets any more muddled. The nationwide plans are exactly the same as the Americas Choice plans except for how data is processed and billed. Your 69.99 family share is still the same price and the 29.99 email and web plan for blackberry would still apply on top of that (your math was off in that the total for the priceplan and bb plan is 129.97). Your employee discount generally only applies to the primary line which for billing purposes is 60 so assuming a max discout of 21% (this maybe high for your eleu) you would save 12.60 making you total before taxes 117.37 assuming that there were no other feature like text messaging, vznav, or insurance etc. and there was no special provisions on the eleu profile for a...
