We had a field engineer come in the store today and let us play with his Samsung omnia that he is testing for VZW...all i have to say is .... that phone is AMAZING 5.0MP, the browser is INSANE FAST, youtube streaming even more insane. touch screen CRAZY responsive, sound quality top notch. I fell in love hahaha! I asked him about the BB Storm he said he just got done testing it last week and its going to be a great device as well. I'm still using my upgrade for the BB Storm since I dont like Winmob devices. But yeah...just wanted to let everyone know the Omnia is coming and it is amazing...going to be crazy expensive though

its too bad we are already getting an old technology Omnia with low res screen. Even though the screen is big, its just an extended pixel width of the standard 240x320 to make it 240 x 400 ish.

The T-Omnia will be 480x800. This hiRes is amazing. Just like the HD-Touch.

What are he** are you mumbling. You obviously have no clue into the Windows Mobile world. This is version 6.1 of the operating system. 6.5 comes out middle of next year and 7.0 come out late 09 early 10.

And yes this current Omnia will be 3g with EVDO-A.

I am only reporting and asking about what I read in the journal Smartphone and Pocket PC, are you aware of this journal? I have had Win Mobile for over two years, so I do have some clue.

I did not read wrong, though the journal may be wrong. Please see Smartphone & Pocket PC: Dec/Jan 2009; vol 11(5), p. 21.

Here is another source besides PCMag that says the Omnia is not 3g. Maybe this is a different version or something?

"On paper, the Omnia sounds like a smartphone dream: 7.2Mbps HSDPA 2100, quadband EDGE, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, 3.2-inch capacitive WQVGA touchscreen, GPS, Windows Mobile 6.1, WiFi, and 8 or 16GB of Flash with microSD expansion, all wrapped in a tight little brushed metal case. One glance at the carbon fiber-look case tells you that Samsung is trying to position this thing as a premium product, and there's no question it has the specs to back up the claim.

Unfortunately, the phone has to get slapped with the usual word of warning that you won't be ab...

Ahh, I apologize, I misinterpreted when you stated "last issue of Smartphone...", I thought you meant the Omnia from Verizon was going to be the last smartphone released ever.

Yes about the Smartphone magazine. I am a subscriber and I received the letter about 7 weeks ago that they were closing up shop due to tough times and low readership and advertising.

Personally I dont think thats any indication the WinMobile platform will disolve. Winmobile is just not in the "now - Momentum" anymore for the iPhone stole the spotlight. So most average consumers love to read about the iPhone. As for WinMobile users, I think we are more technical and advanced than the iPhone user as human beings and geeks. iPhone is a great limited device. A WinMo...

At the risk of being attacked on this board again, will this phone be able to play YouTube vids? I know I can not with my MotoQ (although there is a 3rd party app that will do it). Is the problem a WinMobile problem or just a WinMobile 5 problem?

Because of my collection of 3rd party apps, I want to stay with Win Mobile phones, but the YouTube and 2.5 ear phone jack on this phone may cause me to move to the Storm (plus its pretty cool).

There are of course no reviews yet on Phonescoop for the Storm vs the Saga, but does anyone know how they will compare on processor power?

Currently my main uses are the phone, Web, Chat, and occasionally as a modem.

I am sorry to see that the Smartphone & Pocket PC journal is ceasing publication...
