Is phone quality going down and down each year?
Now, after my extreme disappointment in the Boulder, I'm left wondering if there are any phones nearly as solid as that Audiovox I sorely miss. Any other phones near release I could wait on? I need to send this Boulder back. I'm skeptical about the Moto Adventure's design, but it may have to do. Reports on its battery aren't promising, though.
This was never the case with my old phones. What's up with Verizon? Are they focusing solely on little toy phones with slideout keyboard for teens?
What did I miss?
verizon calls up moto and says, "hey we want a rugged mil spec phone that plays music, has BT, blah blah blah, and we want you to do it for $xx.xx per handset."
so yea, its partially verizons fault

Two cycles ago (i.e., four years or more) I had the best phone I've ever owned, the sadly discontinued Audiovox CDM 9900. Next, a slight step down but still acceptable LG VX 8300.

it's not just verizon, ...

I honest oppinion I think the quality of phone should also depend on intelligence of its user. I personaly own LG enV2 and have messaging only plan. I love this phone and its very sturdy. My friend who works for verizon owns one as well, she just can't believe most of the times that phone can shatter so baddly from a drop to a carpered floor.....unless they were hurling at it.
I have sold more Blackberry Curves to middle aged women than I have to corporate users or teens. It is the keep up with the Jones' mentality, and my paycheck surely does appreciate it.
If you are looking for a rugged phone that has PTT I would reccomend the Adventure, I am really not a Motorola fan at all, but I feel they finally got it right with this one. As for battery concerns, lets be realistic, you only NEED the battery to make through a typical 16 hour day, it can charge when you sleep, or if it really needs it, spring the extra ...

It should be much, much better than it is. Especially when previous phones (even with lots of features like the Audiovox I had years back) had good battery life.
In regards to the Audiovox 9900 that you continue to call feature packed, it was in it's day. The audiovox is not even on the same level as newer phones with either features or technology and no one should try to trick themselves into thinking otherwise.
I dont mean to go off on a rant supporting Verizon, heck, I hate Verizon, but I dont feel that one poorly produced phone should produce such a broad statement about their handsets.
Maybe, but it was well-built, looked good, had a decent battery and made crystal-clear calls.
My personal favorite was the E815. Now THAT was a great phone. Good to see Moto making a comeback with the 755 which I have and love and the Adventure which seems to be getting rave reviews...
My next move was to the same Aud9900 you speak of. My father-in-law is still using that handset today, and he's a rather, shall we say "high risk" user working casino construction in Las Vegas. The leather case on the phone basically turns it into mil-spec, minus the H2O protection, so it may as well be an Adventure for all he uses it for. GREAT phone if all you wanted was a phone.
Before sending my phone over to him, I upgraded to the same LG 8300 you have, which I feel is just as durable. My toddler has thr...
