How good is the service?

I am currently a customer with AT&T, have been for 15 years, I have an Iphone. With the future release of the BB Thunder and Verizon being the projected carrier I would like to know how is the service, i.e. calls dropped, as well as customer service, cause with AT&T it is really bad, to put it nicely, customer service that is.

Well as anyone with a decent knowledge would say, your mileage may vary.

Statistically in both regards for many years Verizon owns AT&T on both fronts. Network and customer service by word of mouth, jd powers and consumer reports Verizon is number one or a very close 2nd in all categories and areas. AT&T drags behind 3rd or 4th most of the time by a good margin.
Before anyone says anything ignore the commie ui statements that are inevitably coming, for with a blackberry Verizon touches nothing but the GPS, in which if you don't want google maps or something you use vz navigator.

I made the switch from at&t and never looked back and never will. But people have done the same moving to AT&T from Verizon, so that doesn't hold much w...

Thanks for the info, I was interested due to the fact that Verizon is in the process of acquiring Alltel, if they have not already. I was a BB owner until the Iphone came out, I can honestly say it is a good phone, but it lacks so much from a business standpoint, they are attempting to rectify the problems but I feel it will take awhile for them to accomplish their goals. The UI is what everyone is so focused on, but if you are going to have a phone like that I feel it should do more, and with AT&T's customer service I feel it is time to move on.

I've had Verizon. I liked their service, but they're really expensive. Just for 4 people our bill was about 400 dollars a month, meanwhile when we were with Sprint it was only about 190 a month. I don't like their insurance policy, where they cut you off after like 3 phones. I currently have AT&T, and I get about the same service as my best friend who has Verizon, and pay less a month. I'd stick with AT&T if I were you.

I've had Verizon for 14 years, starting with a big whopping bag phone back in 1994. I've never had AT&T but I have friends who do and most of the time they are borrowing my phone because they "don't have service." Maybe it's just where I live - really, I don't want to start any wars here...
Verizon's coverage is excellent, I don't know what a dropped call is - truly - and their customer service is better than any company I've ever dealt with- not just cellular-anybody. I don't find their bills expensive for four of us on a family share plan, certainly not $400, I don't even pay $150 a month, but we don't have data plans which I guess can run up the bills.

I know exactly what you mean. When I had Verizon, I never dropped a call. Really and truly. If I did it was because I was moving into a roaming area that has no Verizon towers. I switched over to AT&T for the iPhone a few weeks ago and I've never dropped more calls or had more distorted calls in my life. I can quite honestly say that if you're looking for a company that gives you SERVICE, go to Verizon. If you don't care about making calls, than AT&T is for you.

I get service everywhere with AT&T. Even in the middle of nowhere. My uncle lives out in the middle of nowhere, and I get service, not very good service, but good enough to send text messages and make voice calls, meanwhile my uncle(he has a RAZR with VZW) can't get service in his house at all. He has to go outside to use his phone. I get service in his house, I had a 30 minute phone call in his house without a single dropped call. The only place I don't get service was his basement, but I've never seen a company get service in his basement anyhow, but once I walk back up stairs, I get my 1-2 bars back. Like I said I get service everywhere. I very rarely ever lose service with AT&T, only if its a complete deadzone and no other company can ge...

thats great. so if he goes over to your friends house att will be the best bet. VZW has far better coverage then att in far more areas then the reverse is true, your friends house not withstanding.

ofcourse it depends on your area, however on a national level VZW has a much better network then att, they have 3g in more then double the area, they will have 4g a year before at&t. customer service is not that close VZW always ranks signitificantly higher in CS.

I say try the thunder with the 30 day test drive and see how it works for you. listening to storys about coverage in some dudes friends house isnt going to really help you.

Test Drive the Network for yourself. When the Thunder comes out...port your number in for 30 days or less. If you port your number out to another carrier the calls are free. Your question is really a subjective one though. If you ask that question in a forum such as this almost everyone has an agenda. I have seven lines of service with Verizon, what am I going to say? The service is horrible? Of course, not! Bottom line is what it does for you and you will not know that until you try it out for yourself.

I have at&t and I am also thinking of switching. I know of at least 4 people who have at&t and they are all porting their numbers to VZW. They complain of drop calls and that many people say that it is hard to hear them and a buzzing/static sound in the background. I say try the 30 day trial when the Thunder comes out and see how well it works out for you.

Cent. Coast Calif. - Have had Verizon/(GTE) cell service for many years. ATT offers no signal at my residence. My girlfriend has ATT in a nearby town and has no problems at home. When we travel, Verizon almost always has a signal, and is dropped only in mountainous areas. ATT is very sporadic, and often she's using my Verizon phone as there's no ATT available. This is absolutely the case if you travel to rural areas. I've had no problems in Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana (Apple will not sell the iPhone Montana- no ATT).

Check this website for your area to get customer coverage comments from diff. providers:
