Is Verizon's "Any Device, Any App" policy in effect yet? Will the phone I want work?

Hello. Well ummm, this is my dilemma. Our family wanted to switch to a new carrier from T-Mobile. As a (somewhat) democratic family, we decided to make a vote on it... 1 for Sprint (me, of course), and 3 for Verizon. I wasn't too pleased with that, but I was hoping that I could at least use the phone I want. The Samsung SPH-A900, despite how old and not-so-good it is (in terms of battery), is the phone I am thinking of. Now, I was wondering if Verizon's "Any Device, Any App" policy was in effect. If it is, how would I get the A900 working with Verizon, if possible. Exactly what features would I be missing if I were to do so?

I guess if I couldn't use the phone, I could at least look forward to Metal Gear Solid Mobile. My favorite game ser...

There is a catch to that policy, the device has to be CDMA base, and looking at that samsung model number it's GSM, so it won't work for you. Sorry!

Uhhhh, I'm pretty sure it's CDMA, since it's for Sprint.

A CDMA phone it is. I am atually a fan of the A900. Best reception of any phone i have had and a beautiful screen. Just lacks decent battery power and expandable memory. As for the topic, i would say yes this phone should qualify, its just a matter if the program has been implemented yet.

The bigger catch is you have to send the phone to Verizon so they can do some "rigorous testing" to see if it will work........

Verizon and open network.......Sure THAT'S gonna happen.

No it has not started yet. This initiative will not begin until late 2008. But look at the phones available and upcoming (such as the Dare or Chocolate 3)...there are good options. As for when it will start? Who knows...it'll start the day they say "starting today....." 🙂

Thank you very much for your help. I guess I'll have to wait. I'll get a RAZR or a Gleam in the mean time.

I did hear good things about the RAZR2.

Have you considered the RIZR (the Moto z6tv)? That phone is one of the best phones that VZW has. Great battery life, awesome reception.
