To change plans or not to change...

A lot of people in your situation change their plan to a national plan right before leaveing their state then change back once they're back home.
Wouldn't this extend my contract from the point in time I changed it, and then again when I changed it back? My whole goal is to keep my 2 year contract within the next 2.5 years as I know I'll be here and in school. After that, who knows so I don't wan to be stuck in a contract.
I also never go over 400 peak minutes (avg around 300), so I'm probably going to switch to the AC plan. The ONLY thing that worries me is whether or not the roaming in-state is somehow different on the AC plan than it is on the LDC plan.
I know that on the Verizon coverage maps, there are areas in the Southern California Sierras and in Northern Nevada that are marked 'roaming' on the AC coverage map, but aren't roaming on the LDC plan map... and I'm not sure why.
VZW reps, can you clarify?
In fact, I think even the current bumped-up minutes (450) may be only for a limited time... at least thats what the current AC brochure says.
I do not work for VZW, so I am just stating what I have had done for me and what the rep told me when I was speaking with them on the phone.
