Any advice for a phone discount at upgrade?

Hoping someone could give me some advice on how to obtain a lower price on a phone I'd like to upgrade to. First, let me give you some background...

*I've had my phone number active through Verizon for 8 years this August. Originally, I had my own account. However, my dad passed away last year and at that time, I transferred my account over to my mom's Family Plan (that she had shared with Dad) because she didn't want to lose her awesome plan (she been a customer since Verizon was GTE Mobile--we're getting like 3,000 minutes a month for $99).

*When I merged on mom's account, I was more than halfway through my 2-year contract (and also more than halfway to my NE2 credit). If I stayed on my own account, I would have been eligible for...

Rules and policies are just that. You're not going to get any better pricing. You are paying less each month so that in the end should make up the difference for the NE2 credit you would have gotten on a more expensive plan. You can't expect much only paying $9.99 a month for service for the line.

I don't mean to nag but you sound a little like those customers that have been around for 10 years and want some kind of great reward for it. There is no special treatment. You are on what you're on and eligible for what you're eligible for.

Actually, I don't think being a long-term customer automatically qualifies me for anything. It's just more the fact that I lost my eligibility for a NE2 when I merged accounts, and wasn't aware that I wouldn't be eligible when we merged.

Also, I read a lot of forums online and have heard that some people have had luck in getting a better price....just thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has had luck in doing so.

Thanks for your input though--I appreciate your time for sharing your opinion!

you lost your NE2 credit because you changed plans, plain and simple. Only the primary line is eligible for the NE2 credit. It's always been that way. You are now the secondary line, so no credit. $150 for a Venus is a great deal anyway considering its close to $400 retail.

I feel bad that they would not have notified you when you merged that when you go from a single line with the NE2 to a family share as a secondary line that you will no longer be able to keep that NE2. Yes, sometimes you can talk to CS reps and they sometimes can work you out a better price.

Is your mom or whoever is the primary line due for an upgrade with a NE2. If so you could use her line and then do an ESN change. Then when your upgrade comes along you can have her use your lines upgrade and once again do an ESN change.

There is a save matrix out there somewhere in the VZW corporate world. I'm not too sure if it's available/usable amongst the employees. It's definitely internal and I've used it on customers like you ... but I barely did. Depending on how you propose what you said and who you talk to, you may be able to get a small concession.

it depends all on the plan u have. i have a total of 3 phones but i have any and every feature verizon offers so my bill comes to around 700 a month.. Its around 200 something a line to cancel, soo if i deactivated every phone on the spot it would still cost less than what i pay each month so it wouldnt be financially smart for them at all to let me go.

having that plan, their a lot more leniant when i need a new phone and i just got the Env2 for $200.

ive never had a prolem with verizon not being rediculously leniant, even before i had this plan.. so think of some good excuses, see if u can use ur upgrade early (u get a upgrade every year and a half if u renew for another year), or ask about waiving the primary account holders credit...

As stated before, you forfeited the New Every Two discount when you became a secondary line on the Family Share account. However, if the primary line is eligible to upgrade, you can perform an "alternate" upgrade with Customer Service, whereby you use their upgrade for you. You may also be lucky enough to get a Customer Service Representative that is kind enough to process an upgrade for you with maybe a $50 courtesy discount on the phone. It all depends on how far you were from the original New Every Two on your single account and how nice that person wants to be. It's not unheard of but it is quite rare.
