A question about *228, option 2

Several years ago, if one dialed *228, option 2 while out of his home area, it screwed up the programing of the phone and you had to have your phone reflashed at the Verizon dealer. I know, I found this out the hard way. Does anyone know whether this is still the case, or can *228, option 2 now be dialed from outside your home area without screwing up the phone's programing?

You should be able to do it anywhere in the country without a problem. I was only aware of this causing issues on old phones like the Startac.

The *228 will only work on VZW network (not when roaming). As stated above, this usually hasn't caused any issues on phones in a few years.

*228 option 2 is a PRL update (preferred roaming list). You can do this anywhere on the Verizon network nationwide. Most customers are on national plans these days and it does not matter if you do the PRL update in California or New York, the same version (most recent) will be installed.

You don't need to do it when you go into new states or when you are traveling. Verizon releases PRL updates about once a quarter.

Also, just an FYI, when you do option 1 (programming) it also updates the PRL at the same time (no need to do both).
