Blackberry Curve coming to Verizon

BigShow

Feb 23, 2008, 12:40 PM
When is it coming? I'm saving my upgrade. I want a pda but I refuse to pay $44.99 so I'm waiting for a blackberry with qwerty and camera.

Anyone have an answer yet? I want to know if I should wait to upgrade.

AT&T and T-Mobile already have it. Sprint is getting a CDMA version in April (confirmed by Sprint). I'm sure VZW will get it too as they followed the other 3 with the Pearl and followed Sprint with the 8830.

"I'm sure VZW will get it too as they followed the other 3 with the Pearl and followed Sprint with the 8830."

Actually, VZW didn't "follow" Sprint on any blackberries, they got the 8830, the Pearl, and the others before Sprint. So hopefully, they will again, but who knows.

Does VZW have it forecasted yet? Sprint does for April so if VZW gets blackberrys first (which I remember now they got 8830 first too) I'm hoping Curve comes to VZW sooner.

Also, why does VZW charge $30 for blackberrys and $44.99 for all other smartphones? Shouldn't it be the same?
...

Feb 24, 2008, 11:48 AM
I dunno, but ATT does the same thing. Cheaper for Blackberries than for other smartphones. I think Sprint and Tmobile, also price it lower for blackberries, than for other smartphones, but I may be mistaken. Verizon has it forecasted internally, but they haven't announced it publically yet. It may be an indicator that Sprint will get it first, or it may not. Really, we don't know yet, we just knoe Verizon will get it around the end of March to May time frame.

How about pricing the data plans the same as with your unlimited internet plans for regular phones, or a least within reason.

If 15.00 is the charge for unlimited VCast, why 30.00 for BlackBerry, and higher for other PDA's??

you can't compare the internet on a standard phone to the internet on pda or blackberry. The web is way more robust and their is much more data transferred with the average pda users.

Its two totally different market segments and they are going to treat it as such. ATT does the same thing. Sprint HAS to offer ridiculous rates because otherwise nobody would choose them.

Just my two cents.....

not weird. PDA data and cell phone data are two totally different things. blackberry data is cheaper because you have to have it. it's an agreement between blackberry and the carriers. if you don't want data then don't get a PDA and don't get a cell phone and complain about the mobile web being crap. it is crap, that's why you don't pay as much.

What if you just want a calendar and some of the other features that PDA's can offer? I had a treo for over 6 months and rarely if at all used data. I just wanted a qwerty keyboard, and easy way to navigate contacts, and a great calendar.

I know PDAs can do some amazing things with data, but not everyone needs those functions.

Feb 28, 2008, 3:24 PM
Traditional cellphones have calendars and similar functions of a pda. Envy (full qwerty), voyager (full qwerty), samsung 740 (full qwerty) all good phones, no data needed. To be able to do everything that the phone can do, you'll need a premium package or individual v-cast or whatever works for you. $79.99 for 450 min premium package.

For a blackberry $39.99 450 min, $29.99 for Unl. Data. = $69.99.

Doesn't make sense to me......

By the time Verizon gets it the processor wiill be halved like the V3m, The Gui will have been bastardized and the phone will not be what it is today......The name will be changed to the Blackberry Crud.

I can't wait to read the reviews...IF they are anything like the RAZR I won't be surprised.

verizon typically has more rigorous testing than any other carrier. And they set release dates as well (do you recall the "next" phones , the 755p, Blackberry 8830 Red, Pink Pearl, XV6800. They all had release dates that were set in stone, but vzw sets them closer to the actual date.

Second, you don't even know if the date sprint set is accurate! They just threw a date out there and now people are going to be pissed if they dont deliver the device on that day. You're better off waiting till you know for sure when you can deliver the device--then setting a date.

Lord, I dont even know where to start with this post so I'll try to keep it brief

1. "shot myself in the foot"---how? because I mentioned the next phones? You don't think they tested those phones before they released? They just wanted to create a big splash before the holidays and it worked. Testing and releasing dates are not mutually exclusive

2. Im not even going to comment on the 8830, I dont know where you going with that blast. And as far the curve goes, where all these people that have ported? Ask armysf what he thinks of ATT, he ported to get a cool phone as was back within a week.

wow homie you gotta a lot of hostility in you. But that's okay..it's funny to me that you put att in the same category as verizon considering every fan boy on this forum slams att for piss poor call clarity, and constantly brings up consumer reports. When the truth is att network is inferior to verizon, plain and simple! Yet you refuse to do any research and act like all of Sprint business account and their 53 million customer base are force to be there..puzzling. The same consumer reports you verizon fan boys hold so dear slams Sprint to all hell, but yet their network is better than att. How do I have hostility? Cause I break things down and provide logical reasoning to my answer? I have used both att and sprint personally and have friend use both along with friend who have verizon. I know the pitfalls of each company and have taken the time to learn about each company.

I know sprint has a large amount of customers, but the point is, they aren't really growing. Their churn is terrible and people are flying out to go other carriers and are willing to pay more money to do it. Enjoy your $30 plan and I'll enjoy paying $45 for my BB service and unl text on a better network. Its worth it to me, and im proud to pay for better service.

You're happy paying more because you perceive it as being better.
This is what makes you retarded Chris, no offense but it's true! You watch to many commercials brah! And please read up on all the major changes Hesse is making, you saying cs sucks, when Sprint already admitted it and if fixing it makes you look uninformed. And I already told you about the Nextel network issues in 06 that cause the churn. And I called you hostile because you called me a troll, just because I stated I think verizon should announce the Curve too!

First off, don't ever call me retarded again. If you wanna play with grown ups...then act and talk like one. And im not misinformed. Any new CEO is going to have their plan of action. Call me when all the objectives they set out to complete have been achieved.

Sprint is far from that point and if they reach their goals, then I will give them their props. But I don't think I am out of line by saying that they are company in turmoil.

Just because I value certain things and am willing to pay for them doesnt make stupid, I just have different values than you. By your argument, anyone who pays more than sprint for service is a fool. I know that's your point of view. Sprint's coverage is fantastic and with more roaming partners than verizon, it's second to none. I have traveled from one end of this country to the other with zero issue. Even my family with their verizon service has encountered more dead spots. And Sprint data network certainly is more robust than verizon, that is a fact! Sprint doesn't cap or restrict their data!...I can use slingbox on my Touch and have aces to all kinds of cool things! ( wimax is coming) Products you think verizon phones are better, ok that is fine. I love DC and for me Sprint/ Nextel is king, verizon all but gave up on their inferior push to wait service. yeah the keyboard is tricky at first, but the design allows you to type super fast once you get used to it.

I will still try out the curve, cuz im sticking with blackberry for now. Its the best overall smartphone line that verizon offers. I think the keyboard on the curve is nice, its just gonna take some getting used to. I think the camera factor outweighs the keyboard.

Good to hear you're still reading PS, I know the crowd on here isn't a good as it used to be...but I guess everything is cyclical, and hopefully things will turn around.
