I have verizon and unlimited text, and I've been using mobile IM alot, I mean i used 1000 text with mobile IM yesterday. But my question is does it charge data? I went into my account on my phone and it said i used 0.20MB data. I havent used anything else that could of used data, no internet or anything, so im just wondering if that is from Mobile IM or texting even, if so will it show up on the bill as overages?

I believe MobileIM does use data. That is why it is best to be on a Premium Plan, or at least have the VCast VPak so as to not incur any data charges.

I was getting billed data for using both Mobile IM and VZNav. This was confirmed by two Verizon Wireless customer service reps and a supervisor. That is one of the main reasons I switched from a Select plan to a Premium plan.

As the name states, I work for VZW. Actually at work right now. I am confirming there are no data (MB) charges for using Mobile IM. You do use data for the initial download, but after that no data charges. Do not switch to Premium, you are wasting money. Mobile IM used to use minutes while in use (on America's Choice calling plans) but now that we switched to Nationwide (confirm calling plan), not even MB are charged for Mobile IM usage. To confirm with a representative over the phone, tell the rep to pull up "Mobile Instant Messaging (Mobile IM) 3.0" M&P in Infomanager. This will confirm everything that I have stated.

If you are on the Nationwide plano, you may get charged the 1.99 for using mobile IM. Per documentation mobile IM use does not charge.. but then again, documentation also says pix messages dont charge...

Thats because they don't. If a customer is charged for MB for pix/flix or Mobile IM, it is a vzw error and there needs to be a trouble ticket and a customer is not liable or should they have to go to a higher calling plan. If you are a rep, read your M&P's.

If you are a VZW customer service employee, check known billing issues. Pix/Flix are charging.

Thats why I stated there should be a trouble ticket opened, and the customer should not be at fault or have to change to a premium plan.

Actually if it is a known billing issue you wouldn't do anything, because it is already being worked on. Like the picture messaging thing, were SOME people were charged incorrectly, that was fixed on 1/2/08 and they were automatically credited back. However this wasn't a problem with Mobil IM.
